Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has a history of harsh anti-gay language from his time as an attorney for a socially conservative legal group in the mid-2000s.
In editorials that ran in his local Shreveport, Louisiana, paper, The Times, Johnson called homosexuality a inherently unnatural and dangerous lifestyle that would lead to legalized pedophilia and possibly even destroy the entire democratic system.
And, in another editorial, he wrote, Your race, creed, and sex are what you are, while homosexuality and cross-dressing are things you do, he wrote. This is a free country, but we dont give special protections for every persons bizarre choices.
At the time, Johnson was an attorney and spokesman for Alliance Defense Fund, known today as Alliance Defending Freedom, where he also authored his opposition to the Supreme Court ruling in Lawrence v. Texas which overturned state laws that criminalized homosexual activity between consenting adults.

And, I guess, he looks better with his navy blue blazer than Jordan's no-jacket attire.

(314 posts)Let's see what comes out soon enough. Certainly, we didn't know of Dennis Hastert's prior actions. Perhaps this Johnson also has some such prior incidents.

(1,719 posts)That is the only bellwether we need to attend to. Using beliefs to destroy individual self-expression.
OH, forgot... it's highly likely although not for certain (based on the known history of people in power advocating against something they are themselves) that he's also a closet crossdresser, biisexual, Gay or a pedophile as well. (Just my gut opinion).
My personal experience is the people who go all in on religion, and also advocate strongly against "something", are usually "into" the "something" while they use their exposed religious values as camouflage. "Virtual Crossdressing" when you think about it.
Edit:To be clear, I've known some of those bigots and thankfully also a few gay friends, one Bi-sex woman and also a fellow who cross-dressed (he looked pretty good by the way, and was a really decent chap!) We should all be so lucky to have a rainbow of souls within our life's arc, where everyone accepts who they are and how they express the various aspects of their life and style.

(12,518 posts)The other nominations and unsuccessful candidates and weeks of zombie-like behavior from the Republican side of the House was just smoke and mirrors. Im thinking that they knew all along this was the biggest clown in the clown car, the true Stephen King Clown. They were just biding their time until the country was screaming at them to elect SOMEONE. And then, oddly enough, they were all suddenly in lockstep.
