Body has been discovered in the woods. LE is confident it is the suspect. Listening to details now. Expect press conference on the hour.
Eight witnesses now confirming.
Found in the woods near a recycling plant where he apparently had recently held a job.
Apparently self-inflicted.
A relief for the public, but a tragedy for his family.

(912 posts)That's a question I always ask myself when such insanity ends this way. Not sure there is an answer, but good lord, "Blaze of glory" just doesn't cut it.

(4,075 posts)It is not simply the escape self-destruction, there is also the active desire to kill and destroy, to experience the hunt, to salve the blood lust.
The desire to see others die is a BIG part of it. That and the desire to satisfy, bring to term, the manifest destiny of the gun It is not a hammer! It is not logical.

(53,773 posts)Their gun humping goes awry. They generalize their grievances upon others and don't care who they kill. They surely have no empathy and have lost the concepts of humanity and morality.

(22,134 posts)What he did was horrible, but he was sick, not evil. We (those who have been following the news coverage) have all been made thoroughly aware of his mental illness. It pains me to see this kind of insensitivity here on this board.
His family, who have been cooperating with and assisting the police every step of the way are suffering a deep personal loss just like the families of his victims (plus they have to deal with the secondhand guilt of knowing what their loved one did). They deserve our consideration, along with everyone else in the communities that were directly affected by this.
I suppose it's more fun to call him a dirtbag and celebrate his death, but it's also childish and immature.

(3,509 posts)The pattern is the same with these murderous bastards every single time and the people behind the curtains pulling their strings are the same as well.
Another bunch of innocent people murdered in cold blood is the only tragedy here.
Justice matters.
(9,268 posts)And they sure want more as they have absolutely no intention of ever doing anything about that as it's fully a big part of their plan to install an authoritarian theocratic despot like their disgusting buffoon and his idiotic offspring for President of the United States turned into King(s).
Their hate of all social programs and their love for no taxes at all (for them only) is still their goal.

(54,531 posts)I disrespect someone in his situation committing suicide.
People who kill themselves go through fucking hell and it is the most difficult decision to make and carry out. I know first hand. In fact that is why I can say he took the cowardly way out. He is pure evil and I am glad he is gone. Most people who commit suicide are NOT in this guy's shoes. They are suffering mentally and/or physically and sometimes it is the only way to have peace. I am very supportive of the decision to kill yourself. It is a personal choice and it the most difficult decision a person could ever have to make. I plan on doing it if my health sucks so much I can't take it anymore. Sometimes it is for the best for the individual who is suffering. You can not realize how difficult it really is unless you walk in their shoes.
He is a "coward" in my opinion since he is a mass murderer and should have had to pay for his crimes, unlike the vast majority of people who decide to take this step. I am sorry if I offended you, especially since I am very, very aware of suicide in the general population and I have 100% empathy.

(54,531 posts)and he was talking about "prayers". Nothing in this country is going to change in my lifetime. I really do believe that. People keep voting these assholes into elected office yet 86% want this shit to stop. Americans make zero sense to me. Why do they say one thing yet vote 100% differently?!?
Also, ....
"Trends Over Time
The firearm suicide epidemic has been growing, with the firearm suicide rate increasing 12.5% over the last decade (2010-2019). 2019 showed a slight reprieve, with the rate dropping by 2.84% from 2018. Still, 23,941 Americans died by firearm suicide in 2019, capping a decade during which more than 200,000 people were lost to firearm suicide."

(88,833 posts)Prayer - Im sorry. I just dont see how that helps much, in this case, except maybe an attempt at finding some comfort or consolation. But some imperious new-power-position man says the solution is praying.
Not here, though.
The solution is to GET RID OF THE DAMN GUNS!!!
I heard lots of coverage of the mental illness escape clause. It was widely pointed out that in other countries theres mental illness too. But nobody in those other countries deals with it by grabbing a hand-held massacre machine and mowing down a lot of innocent people with it. I kept hearing the comment only in America. And uniquely American. And the only differential on earth was guns. Guns HERE IN AMERICA. Guns so easy to get and available all over everywhere and hey, you can build your own arsenal if you want to. Be your own fucking Pentagon if you want to.
I lost two friends because there was a gun in their house within east reach when an argument grew too heated. Im still sad about it. And hurt. And angry. And angry because the most effective solution, the best preventive action, is the one we repeatedly refuse to take.
Its the goddamn GUNS.
Dammit.
If I could, Id take every last goddamn one of em away. ALL the guns. AWAY.

(22,134 posts)If you don't think someone who was mentally ill enough to commit a mass shooting and then kill himself went though "fucking hell" by the time he got to that point, you are greatly mistaken.
It's not fair to label someone who was obviously seriously mentally ill as "evil" and a "coward." As I said in a reply to someone else, I am very disturbed to see this kind of insensitivity here at DU.

(4,247 posts)Was any one of the victims in any way involved in his pain?
The hospital that released him has some culpability, so does the murderers family and friends.
Not a single one of the victims needed or should have died. How is that so hard to understand?

Of dead bodies in the wake of Fox, Bannon, Jones and right wing hate to gain power. Even the ones they convince to kill innocents, yet those mouths plow on with their sick hate and lies, in the name of God.

Agree with an earlier comment, too bad he didn't blow his brains out instead of killing and wounding anyone.
