Israeli ground forces inside Gaza, Army spokesman confirms

Source: CNN

Israeli ground forces are inside Gaza having entered the enclave overnight from the north, army spokesman Daniel Hagari said Saturday morning.

Israeli forces “went into the Gaza Strip and expanded the ground operation where infantry, armor and engineer units and artillery with heavy fire are taking part,” Hagari said during a press briefing in Tel Aviv.

“The forces are in the field and continue the fighting,” he said without giving further details.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman’s words confirm the military operation has undergone a significant expansion after what it had earlier described as two "targeted raids," which took place on Wednesday night and Thursday night. Both those raids saw ground forces withdraw after a few hours.

so how many hands were wrung for the innocent civilians trapped in the city in the Battle of Berlin, 1945? Sometimes evil has to be taken out, root and branch.

4. I agree. But I'm not especially moved.

I saw a reference today to "Nazi Hamas" and thought, "Yeah, not quite doing it justice. They'd like the Final Solution, but, you know, Hamas has said they want to establish a theocratic state in Palestine. Oh--wait! Fanon was firmly supportive of the ayatollahs taking over Iran. So there's a common thread."

The reason I'm not moved is that Hamas is a minority and if the vast majority turned on them--on their sons and brothers--what would the sons and brothers do? Kill mom and dad, brother and sister? Do they want the PR, "Hamas kills 10k Gazans"?

As in Germany, support can be passive. You may not like it, but, you know, you keep your head down and hope as your husband goes off to kill that you manage to have supper on the table when he gets back and is randy because you want to be supportive. Nothing wrong with that.

Look, it's easy. If 6k have died because Hamas pulled the trigger on the Israeli guns, and that's a horrible thing, how many would have died if the non-zealot Gazans had instead pulled Hamas aside and told them to stand down and *not* pogrom the Israelis. "We want to live in peace!" No, there are parades and celebrations, even as a lot of the people, not willing to say 'no' or maybe just quietly supportive hunker down for what they will say is all on the Israelis but any thinking human would say Hamas brought on them. Part is passivity, part is in-group solidarity, part is out-group hatred. There could have been peace 20 years ago, except for a fourth (or is it 9th? 12th? 18th?) "no".
