Member of Hamas's elite Nukhba force says terror group using medical institutions, especially Gaza City's Shifa Hospital, because 'you wont strike them'
The IDF and Shin Bet released on Saturday afternoon footage from investigations of two terrorists who infiltrated Israel on October 7 and provided further evidence of Hamas operatives using hospitals in the Gaza Strip to shield themselves from IDF strikes.
During his interrogation, Amer Abu Awash, a member of Hamas's elite Nukhba force, was asked about the connection between hospitals in Gaza and the Palestinian enclave's vast system of subterranean tunnels, to which he responded, most of them are hidden in the hospitals. (At) Shifa for example (the hospital), there are underground levels
Shifa is not small, it is a big place that can be used to hide things."
Abu wash is then asked by the interrogator about why Hamas was using medical institutions, such as hospitals and clinics, for protection, to which he answered, you wont strike them.. He explains that Hamas is taking advantage of the fact that Israel wont strike hospitals to smuggle explosives, weapons, food, medical equipment for their operatives. I told you, Shifa is a safe place, it will not be struck. To them it is safe, thats what we know.

(22,961 posts)also, Hamas have adequate supplies and fuel to help the Palestinians and hospitals.
If Hamas cared about the people of Gaza, they could release the hostages and leave Gaza.
Although Israel will track them down for decades.
As to Israel, hopefully the current invasion will round up a lot of terrorists and closure of the tunnels. The bombings need to stop and the UN can come in.
It's going to take years for the Palestinians and Israelis trust and work together.

(444 posts)Hamas has been using UN facilities the same way they have been using the hospitals. The Israelis will never trust them to deal fairly and prevent a rebuilding of their missiles and tunnels.

(690 posts)I'm not saying Israel shouldn't take steps to deal with the immediate threat. They are in a shitty situation and are dealing with the need to balance sufficient reaction and overreaction. That being said, unless something is done by both sides to bring about a longer peace solution, then they will be back here again in the future.
Seems like an impossible feat given how there is so much resentment and how uncompromising everyone involved are. This will upset people from all sides because they claim it's both-sideism, but the fact is that there will only be peace if both sides take steps, and if they control the people who don't want peace.
