Nov 12 (Reuters) - The United States carried out two air strikes in Syria against Iran and its aligned groups on Sunday, the Pentagon said, in the latest response to a series of attacks against American forces in Syria and in Iraq. In a statement, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the strikes targeted a training facility near the city of Albu Kamal and a safe house near the city of Mayadeen. He said President Joe Biden ordered the strikes.
"The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he directed todays action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests," Austin said in a statement.
Local sources also said the strikes targeted a camp run by pro-Iranian militias in an area west of Albu Kamal, in Deir al Zor province. The other strike was near a bridge close to the city of Mayadeen, near the Iraqi border and stronghold of pro-Iranian militias, the sources said.
The strike is the third since Oct. 26 as the United States attempts to quell wave after wave of drone and rocket attacks against American troops in Syria and Iraq, triggered by the Israel-Hamas war.

Nov 12 (Reuters) - The United States carried out two air strikes in Syria against Iran-aligned groups on Sunday, a U.S. defense official told Reuters, in what appeared to be the latest response to a series of attacks against American forces in Syria and in Iraq.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said one of the targets was a weapons storage facility. The other was a "command and control" facility, which would suggest a headquarters or other staffed structure.
The official said the strikes took place within the past couple of hours and said a U.S. review was underway to determine whether the strikes killed or wounded any Iran-aligned militia members.

(22,729 posts)No one wants a piece of us or our NATO allies. It won't be fun for them. Being annoying can bring a measured kinetic response as we've seen in the OP. Seriously escalate the situation and they're in for a world of pain.
In addition to 2 carrier strike groups and the amphib ready group already on station, an SSGN, Ohio class guided missile submarine, has joined the party with a boat load of Tomahawks (TLAMs) ready to ruin anyone's day.

iDJT would ceed all to the dictators. Joe is walking a fine line here, not escalating, and obviously stepping back from entering the fight as we would have just a few years ago.
