Susan Sarandon sorry for saying US Jews 'getting taste of what it feels to be Muslim'

Source: Times of Israel

Actress Susan Sarandon issues an apology for saying at a recent pro-Palestinian rally that US Jews fearing for their safety amid a spike in antisemitism “are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country.”

“This phrasing was a terrible mistake, as it implies that until recently Jews have been strangers to persecution when the opposite is true,” she says in a statement.

“I deeply regret diminishing this reality and hurting people with this comment. It was my intent to show solidarity to the struggle against bigotry of all kinds, and I am sorry I failed to do so,” says Sarandon.

The actress was dropped by Hollywood talent agency UTA after her initial remarks.

apologized for that, and I suspect the only reason she apologized for this is because she was dropped from the UTA, and is probably getting push back for her anti-Jewish remarks..

The fact that it took her over a week to apologize indicates no sincerity in that apology.

Julianna Margulies, whose an activist herself who was I think out there protesting George Floyd's murder for the cameras by pin cushion Chauvin, is usually well-spoken concerning all things political, racial had to walk back some comments she recently made as well. Julianna's USUALLY very well spoken on racial issues, LGBTQ issues .... In her case, I guess her emotions got the best of her during the interview she did, which REALLY came out the wrong way

Julianna Margulies apologizes for saying Black, LGBTQ people hate Jews
The actress known for ‘The Good Wife’ and ‘The Morning Show’ apologized for criticizing what she said was Black and LGBTQ people’s lack of support for Jews amid the Israel-Gaza war.

But yeah, Selfish and entitled Susan cares about NO ONE but herself and about her family. She's a disgrace, an embarrassment. Bad enough she talked about Hillary Clinton the way she did

Sarandon has never quite figured out when to STFU, preferring to inflict more damage and divisiveness over time. She remains an absolute treasure to the extreme right and fits right into the entire "divide and conquer" scheme. It seems that laying the groundwork in 2016 for the train wreck that followed wasn't damaging enough, so Susan and her ilk are finding common cause with those on the opposite end of the spectrum. Just burn it all down, and quibble with the rebuilding details after the fact.

I feel sad for her, because I understand how one can have compassion for the Palestinians while still despising Hamas for the terrorist group they are, and how one at the same time can have compassion for the Israelis who have died in the attacks, the hostages, the orphans while still thinking Bibi Netanyahu is a right-wing jerk, and how all this can be happening inside you without being an anti-Semite or being anti-Muslim.

Sometimes talking when you should be silent is not such a good thing.

That said, her comment is common when it comes to anti-Semitism. Her comment has been said here, almost word for word in some cases, and similar statements. After the attack on the Tree of Life synagogue, two posters here said something along the lines of "Well, now Jews know what it is like for Black Americans" with one comment coming from an AA poster, the other from a white poster. Similar statements were made, substituting Muslims, about Palestinians, Gays, and there was another group and I can't remember now, damn it, under a variety of circumstances where anti-Semitism was the topic and they felt the need for whataboutism.

quite post words to counter the phrase: "now Jews will know what it's like to be _____(fill in the blank)".

Yeah, so maaaaybe some Jews need some details on a particular group BUT since Jews have suffered oppression, and scapegoating at various times for millennia even before The Holocaust they have a general experience of serious difficulties that result from certain oppressive actions.
