Joe Biden Impeachment Looks More Likely After Walmart Confrontations: Comer

Source: Newsweek

"I do. I had a reporter ask, 'What's changed?' I tell you one thing that's changed. A great thing happened during Thanksgiving. The members went home, many of them for the first time, and circulated for the first time in over 10 weeks. And they met people in Walmart and people on Main Street. So they heard from their constituents. They were like, 'What in the world have the Bidens done to receive millions and millions of dollars from our enemies around the world and did they not pay taxes on it?' So they heard from their constituents, 'Yes we want you to move forward, we want to know the truth and expect the Bidens to be held accountable for public corruption,'" Comer said. "So I'm confident we're going to have the votes to move forward with this impeachment inquiry."

At least when it comes to Presidential impeachments.

Andrew Johnson lost the party’s nomination following his impeachment. The party then lost the following presidential election. There were no changes in the Senate but they did make considerable gains in the House.

Bill Clinton was impeached in his second term so he did not run again. The mid term occurred during the impeachment and the party made no gains in the Senate and moderate gains in the House. The part did make gains in the following election in the House and Senate but lost the Presidential election (though it was of course widely disputed).

Following Trump’s impeachment, his party lost the Presidency, lost seats in the Senate and lost seats in the House.

So following impeachment, the impeached party is:
+0 / -3 for next Presidential election
+2 / -1 for the next House election
+1 / -1 for the next Senate election

I'm not sure it's a fair example. It just seems like WH party switching is pretty common after a two-term Presidency, except for Trump who had only a single term and Reagan/Bush, which gave Republicans an unprecedented (in modern times) 12 years in the WH between the two of them. And as far as Trump and impeachment? People were sick of him and his antics and came out in great numbers to get rid of him. Whether his first impeachment actually mattered electorally in the grand scheme of things, I'm unclear. People had sort of mixed feelings about that first impeachment anyway.

But I disbelieve Comer's ability to bring anything of substance. After all, he shows nude pictures of Hunter but refuses to consider Hunter testifiy in the nude.

James Comer Makes Walmart Comment That Draws Snickers From White House Spox
The Kentucky Republican's explanation for why he thinks the GOP is ready to approve an impeachment inquiry got mocked by a Biden aide.

By Ron Dicker Dec 4, 2023, 09:04 AM EST

...............................

“We were in Washington, D.C., for 10 weeks, and there are about 15-20 moderates,” Comer said. “They really worry about what CNN says, or what The Washington Post writes, and they were getting in their head, Maria.”

.......................

Ian Sams, a White House spokesman for oversight and investigations and special assistant to Biden, was definitely amused.

“Burisma, it’s the talk of Walmarts nationwide!!!” he snarked with a laughing-cry-face emoji on X. The president’s son, Hunter Biden, sat on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma while his father was vice president, prompting complaints from state department officials and speculation of corruption by others.

“So we are unified at a time when I think it’s no secret our conference is broken in a lot of ways,” Comer continued. “The members have heard from their constituents back home. They have confidence in the credibility of our investigation, and the mountains of evidence we’ve accumulated. So I’m confident we’re gonna have the votes to move forward with this impeachment inquiry.”

Mon Dec 4, 2023, 04:50 PM
Dec 2023

As House Republicans move toward a floor vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry against President Biden, House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has again mischaracterized evidence of payments from Hunter Biden to his father.

In an email to reporters, a spokesperson for Comer claimed that the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Biden, had obtained bank records revealing that Hunter Biden’s law firm, Owasco PC, which had received payments from Chinese-state-linked companies and other foreign companies in the past, made direct monthly payments to Joe Biden. The email claimed the payments “are part of a pattern revealing Joe Biden knew about, participated in and benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes.”

The three payments of $1,380 that occurred in September, October and November of 2018 — nearly two years after Biden had left the vice presidency — were actually for a 2018 Ford Raptor truck Joe Biden had purchased that Hunter Biden was using, according to an email verified by a Washington Post forensic analysis.

“There Chairman Comer goes again - reheating what is old as new to try to revive his sham of an investigation,” Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell said in a statement. “The truth is Hunter’s father helped him when he was struggling financially due to his addiction and could not secure credit to finance a truck. When Hunter was able to, he paid his father back and took over the payments himself.”
