Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time since it was released in 1958. The holiday classic outperformed familiar chart-topper Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You," which came in at No. 2.

"Rockin'" was streamed nearly 35 million times between the Friday after Thanksgiving and Thursday, according to Billboard. The news follows last month's release of a music video for the song, which Lee has said she knew was special when she first heard it as a child.

"I wanted to do it, and we did," she told CMT, a division of Paramount, the parent company of CBS News.................................................

5. Back in the 70s my wife and I saw her perform

in a little theater in Georgetown, Illinois. One of the songs she performed was this one. She also sang her biggest hit "I'm Sorry"

The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 2017, after rules on chart eligibility for older songs had been relaxed several years before, and reached a peak of No. 38.

Both tunes were recorded in Nashville recording studios and were Christmas favorites each year on the Nashville radio stations when I was a kid in the 50s/60s.

Here she is at 11 years old belting out Hound Dog, two years before she recorded Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree in 1958 at only 13 years old.
