Congress erupts after court disqualifies Trump from Colorado ballot

Source: Axios.com

By Andrew Solender

The Colorado Supreme Court's decision on Tuesday to disqualify former President Trump from the state's 2024 ballot quickly touched off fierce reactions from members of Congress in both parties.

(snip)

What they're saying: House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) blasted the Colorado Supreme Court majority as "four partisan Democrat operatives" in a statement, predicting the ruling "will backfire and further strengthen President Trump's winning campaign."

(snip)

"The text of the 14th Amendment is crystal clear: anyone who participates in insurrection is permanently barred from public office. Donald trump incited a violent riot to overthrow American democracy," Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) said on X.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.), an impeachment manager in Trump's Jan. 6-focused Senate trial, said "it was very clear to me that the evidence showed Trump called for and incited the mob on January 6."

Alito and Thomas will vote to keep him on the ballot because neither care about burning the Constitution, but the other conservatives will be pressed hard by Roberts who will not want to see his legacy completely flushed down the toilet by upholding a dictator.

Reagan was also a generational speaker with witty one-liners, and with high approval ratings by the November election. Can Biden get to 60+% by November? We shall see.

However, against Trump he can win with a 42% approval rating.

One state that trump was going to lose anyway doing it just pokes the wasp nest.

Scotus upholding this leads to more states doing it, which leads to no trump on the ballot.

The easiest win next year was based on trump on the ballot, as the majority of the us despises him. Take him off and the election gets a lot more complicated and the results less certain.

And the one thing I am sure of is that none of the republican candidates would do policy or governance significantly differently than trump. They may have different PR styles.. but the end result is essentially identical.

Everybody is focused on the ballots. The big story here is that for the first time in history a state supreme court has disqualified an insurrectionist from the presidency:

The sum of these parts is this: President Trump is disqualified from holding
the office of President under Section Three; because he is disqualified, it would be
a wrongful act under the Election Code for the Secretary to list him as a candidate
on the presidential primary ballot.
