Eric Cantor: Obama "Ought to Be Putting Obamacare on the Table"

Let's ignore the Republican Senators Who Dare to Break With Norquist, shall we? I mean no offense. They're all perfectly nice guys. But their votes don't really matter when it comes to passing a compromise tax/spending Fiscal Cliff bill. The Republican House, the last redoubt of Norquistians, has shown no signs of breaking. In an op-ed last week, John Boehner made a little news when he wrote Obamacare should be "on the table" in a Cliff debate, something totally anathema to Democrats who have now defended the law in two electons. Today on Fox News, Eric Cantor echoed Boehner.
"If the President is serious about joining us and fixing the problem he ought to be putting ObamaCare on the table," he told Bill Hemmer. "There is no question in my mind, that is the largest expansion of government programs that we've seen."
Hemmer asked how far Cantor might go with this. "All I can say is that the president has got to get serious," said Cantor. "The speaker is correct that Obamacare is such an expansion of government spending that it ought to be on the table." Unlike Boehner, he got somewhat specific about what might be slashed. The medical device tax, for example, and IPAB, "the essence of Washington controlling all that health care is about."
Some Democrats, like incoming Sen. Elizabeth Warren, are open to cutting the device tax. But cutting back either that tax or IPAB costs money. Getting rid of them doesn't actually bring down the deficit at all -- it does the exact opposite. And in the past, Obamacare "on the table" has meant full repeal or full defunding. Never mind Norquist -- that's just not going to be a workable compromised.

(141,926 posts)Some may recall my (and obxhead's) rather loud support for Wayne Powell, who challenged cantor for his seat in Virginia's 7th District.

I understand Mr. Powell is thinking about running again, even tho he incurred debt in his effort, and still has some.
Anyone have thoughts on whether he should run again? And if he did, would you support him?
Thanks

(97,562 posts)Cantor betrayed not only his state in a time of crisis. He also has betrayed his country. He did this for his political gain and his obscenely rich corporate donors!
For the reasons below. From Mr. Powell's website.
(2) I will do everything in my power to stop the flow of jobs, both manufacturing and high tech, from America to foreign nations. Cantor has sat idly as 2.8 million American jobs have been relegated to the slave labor market in China. Cantor's multi-national corporate sugar daddies are benefitting from his lack of action, not the 7th District.

Sometimes you have to spend money to save money, and the projections have been that the health care act will actually reduce the deficit. One CBO estimate places the savings at an estimated $109 billion.
Which only further proves that the Republicans don't care about the deficit. They just want to attack social programs.

(15,438 posts)Or he should be reminded - not that Fox "News" would ever remind a rightwing corporate lackey they'd gotten a shellacking by the American people in last election, and had it not been for gerrymandering by Republican governors and Republican legislatures, Can'tor and the rest of the House infested with Rightwingers, would be marginalized, too.

(53,177 posts)What should be on the table is the preferential tax rate for long-term capital gains. The original intent may have been good, but the reality of it is the capital gains rate is now a 58-percent tax savings for anyone rich enough to defer his or her payday by two years.
Since the Republicans are totally unwilling to discuss any tax rate increase, this won't happen.
Also, since the Republicans are totally unwilling to discuss any tax rate increase, this means they are behaving like two-year-olds who don't want to eat strained squash.

(6,699 posts)This is one of my TWO big disappointments in the 2012 election: that this prick got re-elected. What a district of morons. This sappy, girly-man ass-hole needs to be blown off the table. WHY do we have to listen to his whiny, prissy-ass complaining about what HE doesn't like? Jesus, such a bottom-feeding turd. Can't stand this guy. Oh...the other disappointment was bachmann. HOW IN THE HELL can she be re-elected?? Shows just how lame-ass ignorant her constituents are.

(50 posts)ObamaCare isn't going anywhere. Just like social security, while unpopular at first, will soon be much loved by the public once it's fully implemented.
2.2 million dollars are spent every minute on the military. Imagine if we spent 2.2 million dollars every minute on social welfare and education instead of war. ObamaCare shouldn't be on the table, the American military complex should be.

(77,294 posts).... It still safe to lie on Fox.
The only reason the repugs still have the majority in the House is because of
the Gerrymandering of the Congressional districts after the 2010 elections so
for Cantor to push that lie all i can do is
