Donald Trump dared a federal judge to hold him in contempt of court by having screenshots of his sex abuse victim E. Jean Carroll's smutty jokes on Twitter posted to his social media account as he sat in the courtroom.
....................
...............
As he sat without a phone in a federal courtroom for the start of a second trial in the case Tuesday, a series of posts about the writer went up on his Truth Social account.
In the first trial, which covered comments Trump made about Carroll after leaving the White House, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan warned Trump's attorneys that social media posts about the case or his accuser could expose him to "a new source of potential liability."
Kaplan has already ruled that this trial, which covers defamatory statements Trump made as president, will not be a "do-over" of the first case, and he will not allow the ex-president to deny Carroll's allegations, discuss DNA evidence or mention her past romantic relationships.

Trump has now made 30 social media posts this morning about E. Jean Carroll before his trial began and while jury selection has been going on during the trial, where he is being sued for social media posts about E. Jean Carroll.

(80,810 posts)The prospective jury was awash in registered voters, and most of those in the courtroom voted in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. Yet few of them admitted to the kinds of strong views that would raise concerns among lawyers or even, despite being asked where they get their news, offered much detail.

NEW: A jury of 9 people has been selected for the E. Jean Carroll trial, and starting at 3:10, her team will present their opening. That doesnt mean the morning was uneventful, however. 1/

Instead, many claimed to be news agnostic, that they get news anywhere or everywhere or consult both the WSJ & NYT for varied perspectives. It was like the jury version of Katie Couric asking which newspapers Sarah Palin read, and Palin said, All of em.

No one said their political views, party affiliations, campaign donations, or volunteerism would prevent them from being fair to both sides. Only one person admitted they would have difficulty being fair given their awareness of Trumps other legal cases and investigations.

But mostly, what stuck with me was the lack of excuses. In most cases, prospective jurors will come up with some reason, any reason that they should be excused, from caregiving responsibilities to financial hardship to admitted biases.

(6,115 posts)Tomorrow the trial begins. I can't wait to see how this judge is going to handle the social media smear barrage. I'm pretty damn sure he isn't going to ignore it.
Don't forget, the facts of the case have already been established. This trial is to determine the amount of damages.

Is that right, lawyers?

(280 posts)I doubt that any of the Trump Organization properties are personally in his name and if his home in Florida is it would be exempt like OJ's was when he was hit with a big wrongful death lawsuit.
I'm sure there are too many shell corporations to count.
That might be why he moved from New York.
I've always wondered about the reason for that move. It's starting to make sense.
