Ron DeSantis ends presidential campaign before New Hampshire primary
Source: ABC
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is ending his 2024 Republican presidential campaign after failing to overtake rival Donald Trump in polling or in the early vote.
DeSantis made the announcement in a video posted to social media on Sunday with less than 48 hours until voting in New Hampshire's primary, the second state in the nominating race.
""We don't have a clear path to victory," DeSantis said in the video, which he said was filmed in Florida.
He then endorsed Trump, a primary opponent whom he has increasingly criticized on the trail.
"It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance. ... While I've had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is clear," DeSantis said. "I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee and I will honor that pledge."

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his top aides are having internal discussions about when and how he should drop out of the 2024 presidential race, according to people briefed on the campaigns conversations.
The discussions are fluid, with the governor and his wife, Casey, as the final decision-makers, but one possibility is to leave the race before voting starts in New Hampshire on Tuesday to avoid an embarrassing third-place finish.
New polling from CNN and the University of New Hampshire shows DeSantis earning just 6% of the states Republican vote, whereas Trump has 50% and Haley has 39%.

Chump won't quit the campaign for obvious reasons. But the DoJ and SCOTUS will both give him the one-two punch.

"DeSantis quit with a fake Churchill line! Maybe the actual quote is in one of the books he banned?" mocked activist Christine Pelosi.
Conservative Bill Kristol cited a similar quote more befitting the governor: "Churchill actually wrote, in Their Finest Hour, 'No one can guarantee success in war, but only deserve it.' DeSantis neither deserved success nor had it."
Republican turned Independent Tara Seetmayer at the Lincoln Project explained, "DeSantis campaign is more Greek tragedy than Churchill."....
The International Churchill Society released a statement about the quote, saying: "We can find no attribution for either one of these . . . They are found nowhere in his canon . . . An almost equal number of sources found online credit these sayings to Abraham Lincoln."
"We base this on careful research in the canon of fifty million words by and about Churchill, including all of his books, articles, speeches and papers, the group explains.

(2,658 posts)invitation to be his VP, Nikki would do well to remember Trump's "gallows" sense of humor. ("Hang Nikki Haley!" doesn't trip off the tongue as nicely as "Hang Mike Pence," but Trump's followers won't care.)
But maybe behind that sweet, earnest demeanor of hers she is doing some hard calculations and is betting that Trump will either stroke out, have a heart attack, or be imprisoned, and voilà! She gets to be president.
