Texas birth rate among teens in 2022 hit 15-year high

Source: The Hill

The birth rate among Texas teenagers hit a 15-year high in 2022, following the 2021 six-week abortion ban in the state.

Texas fertility rates among teenagers 15 to 19 years old slightly increased for the first time in 15 years, according to a new report released this month by the University of Houston Institute for Research on Women, Gender & Sexuality. The number of births among teenagers was up from 20.32 to 20.4 per 1,000 teenagers — about a 0.39 percent increase.

The report said that fertility rates among Hispanic teenagers, Black teenagers and Asian teenagers in Texas all slightly increased in 2022 but decreased among white teenagers.

The report noted that the overall fertility rate in Texas rose by 2 percent in 2022, especially among Hispanic women ages 25-44. Births among women in that group jumped up 8 percent in 2022, the report said.

The abortion ban is disproportionately affecting non-whites. The slight uptick in birth rate isn't alarming by itself. It becomes a bigger concern when you consider increases in maternal and infant mortality.

Maternal mortality rates rise in Texas. Maternal mortality rates in Texas more than doubled between 1999 and 2019. The state had one of the highest increases in deaths among Black individuals during that time period, the study shows.

Banning abortion was supposed to increase White births. White women better be careful.

Just high sales taxes and others. Oh, and there's no freedom for minorities. It's white, "Christian" male heaven I suppose. But for most of the population, which is female, black, Latino, LGBT, it's fucking hell.

The birth rate among teens is also rising because Texas Republicans are not only waging war on abortion, but also on clinics that provide contraceptives and other reproductive health services. Texas social reactionaries go into tizzies thinking that if Planned Parenthood and other such agencies close down, teenagers will stop having sex and the birth rate will drop like a rock. That the evidence is to the contrary concerns them not at all. These politicians and ideologues should not be allowed to dictate health policy.

Do you not understand that the GQP hope is for more uneducated people in the populace? They don't want fewer young people having sex, they want more. They want more poor uneducated people that they can manipulate.
