WASHINGTON (AP) A man who stormed the U.S. Capitol with fellow Proud Boys extremist group members was sentenced on Wednesday to six years in prison after he berated and insulted the judge who punished him.
Marc Bru repeatedly interrupted Chief Judge James Boasberg before he handed down the sentence, calling him a clown and a fraud presiding over a kangaroo court. The judge warned Bru that he could be kicked out of the courtroom if he continued to disrupt the proceedings.
You can give me 100 years and Id do it all over again, said Bru, who was handcuffed and shackled.
Thats the definition of no remorse in my book, the judge said.

(10,310 posts)He wont be any more attractive after 6 years in prison, but that ship sailed a long time ago. On the upside, his story about how he told off the judge might be worth a beer or two at the bar once he gets out. A very good thing, considering he will be a convicted felon with no job and little chance of getting one.

(9,372 posts)some time afterwards as well. Yes, he's being sentenced in a federal court, butnot for a misdemeanor - and a felny conviction will cost him his voting rights - depending on the state for how long or how permanently.

(53,544 posts)Some won't be eligible to vote even if they are out of prison but still serving probation or in a halfway house. But once their sentence is served they can vote.
Other states don't allow felons to vote.
It turns out two states and DC permit maintain voting rights even in prison.
23 states only while incarcerated.
14 states while incarcerated and a period of time after.
11 states lose rights indefinitely for some crimes, or require governor's pardon

(36,631 posts)The pattern in all of these cases is to sentence less than the prosecution recommends.

(172,211 posts)There are some of the sentences - particularly for those convicted of Seditious Conspiracy, where DOJ has appealed the sentences to try to get longer ones.

Approximately a month later, it did, prosecutors added,"
Hope he ends up in a "Good" Prison. Wink. Wink. Wink.

(43,348 posts)James Boasberg, who took over from Beryl Howell, ordered Scott Perry to turn over more than 2,005 messages sought by the Garland DOJ. The Garland DOJ had seized Perry's phone in August, 2022 to obtain messages related to the 2020 election in Pennsylvania and former Vice President Mike Pences role in presiding over the Jan. 6, 2021, counting of Electoral College votes, according to Boasbergs opinion. Boasberg, who had taken over the case from Howell, ordered the messages turned over by December 27 to the newly appointed Special Counsel, Jack Smith.
Boasberg ruled that the messages may bear a relationship to legislative proceedings insofar as they touch on the certification vote, they are neither integral nor essential to Perrys participation in those proceedings because they pertain only to Vice President Pences role, Boasberg wrote.

From the link: "Prosecutors recommended a prison sentence of seven years and three months for Bru..."
This clown does that to the judge personally, and in his courtroom - and he gets LESS than recommended?
I think there have only been two sentencing where the judges gave the sentence recommended by prosecutors. TWO! I just don't understand this.
I would have given him 9 years.
