Trump must pay E. Jean Carroll over $83 million in defamation damages, jury rules
Source: nbc
Former President Donald Trump must pay writer E. Jean Carroll over $83 million in damages for repeatedly defaming her, a jury found Friday.
The nine-person jury began deliberations inat 1:40 p.m. ET and reached a verdict in just under three hours.
The decision came after contentious closing arguments that saw Trump storm out of the courtroom. He returned for his own attorney's closing arguments but left the courthouse at 4 p.m., before the jury returned its verdict.
Trump had already been found liable for defaming Carroll while he was president by mocking her allegation that he'd sexually abused her, so this jury was only tasked with determining how much she should be paid in damages.

More fleecing the sheep to pay for this judgment after it is appealed.
Going to be a lot of whizzing and moaning tonight in trump's abode.

(17,546 posts)According to Carroll's other lawyer, who was on with Chris Hayes last night, in NY a defendent found guilty of defamation has to put the damages money in some kind of court approved escrow account. It stays there until the appeal process is finished. If the plaintiff wins, the money is already there waiting. The lawyer said that the 5M Carroll won previously is in such an account while Trump appeals that verdict.

He'd have to pay interest and put up collateral in case he lost and didn't pay up.
So in any case he'll have to lose something.
He will also have to pay his lawyer's fees, unless he just skips out and doesn't pay.
I wonder if he has to pay Carroll's lawyer's fees too?
Of course he could just order the RNC to pay the whole thing for him so he could get off scot free as is his god given right.

Hopefully Trump will learn to keep his mouth shut.
Hopefully his financial backers won't cover this or any other debt Donny's past behavior and mouth has earnt him.
And he has to sell some of his real estate assets at greatly reduced value.
