Chita Rivera, a multi-hyphenate performer with more than seven decades of Broadway credits, has died. She was 91.
"It is with immense personal sorrow that I announce the death of the beloved Broadway icon Chita Rivera. My dear friend of over 40 years was 91," shared her rep Merle Frimark in a statement on Tuesday.
According to a statement released by her daughter Lisa Mordente, Rivera died in New York "after a brief illness."

(5,910 posts)I saw her in 'Merlin' (also in the cast were Doug Henning, Nathan Lane, and Christian Slater) in the 80's. She played the evil Queen, brilliantly. The show itself wasn't one of the best I'd seen, but she was a definite high point.
That was way back when the average person could actually still afford a ticket to a Broadway musical.
(I had previously seen Doug Henning in Maryland. Got some tickets at a decent price. They were Row AA, which I assumed was way toward the back. Turned out that AA was the first row where they had removed the orchestra, so I was right against the stage. It would have been much better to be further back, since I cold see every wire and even into the wings at times when his crew were making the magic happen.)

She had cheekbones to die for.
