Former President Donald Trump ramped up his threats to prosecute President Joe Biden if he wins another term in the White House.
An appeals court rejected Trump's claims of immunity in the federal election subversion case in the District of Columbia, although he intends to press the same argument in Florida, where he also faces federal charges for mishandling classified documents, and the ex-president issued what appeared to be a "blackmail" threat against his Democratic rival.
"If a President does not have Immunity, the Opposing Party, during his/her term in Office, can extort and blackmail the President by saying that, 'if you dont give us everything we want, we will Indict you for things you did while in Office,' even if everything done was totally Legal and Appropriate," Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump has made clear that he would use the Department of Justice to target his enemies if re-elected, and he listed some of them by name..............................

Otherwise, regarding a Trump prosecution of Biden, either Trump would do it even if Biden pardoned TSF today or Bidens case would be summarily dismissed.

(3,531 posts)Blackmail doesnt even apply here. Extortion is the only word that remotely works:
So hes attempting, and poorly, to get Biden to drop the charges through the threat or payback. Give me X or Ill do Y to you. Extortion. Plain and simple, but as usual, Donnie Dumbfuck screws even this up for all the obvious and logical reasons.

This race is as tight as it possibly CAN be. We cant keep assuming thet because trump is so bad he cant win.
The 2020 election was only won by about 45,000 votes & we knew then what we know now; he's nuts.
Why should 2024 be any different

His mind is unbelievably warped and stunted. I'd feel sorry for him, but my outrage over what he has done and continues to do to this country keeps getting in the way!

dpibel
(3,825 posts)When Trump asserts this defense, it will first be heard by Cannon who, I have little doubt, will find that citizen Trump has all kinds of immunity.
The appeal will go to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The decision of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals is not binding on the 11th, which can decide any way it likes. If its decision is contrary to the DC decision, there will be a split in the circuits which will all but guarantee that the Supremes take the case up.
It's also possible that the Supremes will review the DC opinion. The Florida immunity claim would get put on hold pending word from the Supremes.

If TSF is going to go down that road, let's start having a conversation about his responsibility for the million American COVID deaths. Maybe he wants a mass murder trial. Fucking pig. I SO hope that the Biden campaign and The Lincoln Project have ads already in the can to hit him on this. No one is saying anything about it. It IS a campaign issue. Should have been in 2020, but may have been too soon.

Counsel to the President
The Office of Counsel to the President was created in 1943, and is responsible for advising on all legal aspects of policy questions, legal issues arising in connection with the President's decision to sign or veto legislation, ethical questions, financial disclosures, and conflicts of interest during employment and post employment. The Counsel's Office also helps define the line between official and political activities, oversees executive appointments and judicial selection, handles Presidential pardons, reviews legislation and Presidential statements, and handles lawsuits against the President in his role as President, as well as serving as the White House Contact for the Department of Justice.

Once he is no longer a threat to the office of the presidency, he should be completely ignored by anyone who is not under the delusion of his cult.
If the corporate media starts noticing that they lose massive amounts of viewers/readers/clicks and credibility each and every time they mention his name, he will dissappear into the obscurity that is his rightful place.

They can do that right now. Obama could have prosecuted W for torture and spying on American citizens. Ronald Reagan was prosecuted for the Iran-Contra affair....though he was too far into dementia to remember anything.
So presidents have and can be prosecuted for breaking the law while president. It hasn't made the office weak or ineffective.
