Judge denies Trump's motion for mistrial in E. Jean Carroll defamation case
Source: CNN
A federal judge denied Donald Trumps motions for a mistrial in the defamation case brought by columnist E. Jean Carroll saying the former presidents arguments had no merit and are entirely pointless.
Judge Lewis Kaplan denied Trumps motions from the bench during the civil trial and said a written order would follow. In the written order on Wednesday, the judge said granting a request for a mistrial would have been entirely pointless because it would only mean that the case would start over.

(129,053 posts)due to a tortured and convoluted attempt to show a "conflict of interest" between the judge and prosecution attorney due to them working for the same law firm 30 years ago.

(7,529 posts)45 skipped the first trial, I guess confident it would go his way. Habba goofed up and apparently doesn't know how to submit evidence, then Donnie decides to attend the damage hearing wanting to argue he was not liable in a case that already concluded saying he was. That's why he and Habba kept getting shut down - they were trying to submit evidence after-the-fact in the wrong venue, and she had a fit saying the judge was rude to her because she wasn't lawyer-ing correctly.

(129,053 posts)should merit some kind of sanctions. I expect the Judge was probably considering it but he looks like the type who has "seen and heard it all" over many years and would just add this trial to his list of kooky litigations to laugh about.

(4,369 posts)your later motions.... Basic Law 101
(Quite likely that advice is not included in 'Basic Law 101' at present,
but is included in 'Basic Common Sense for Beginners'.
Obviously changes will have to be made in law education standards....
(Not to imply that the motion had any merit, because it didn't---
but it is pretty damned stupid to prejudice the judge against your own case
by language and threats that could imperil their life....)
