Joe Manchin will not run for president

Source: CNN Politics

Updated 12:06 PM EST, Fri February 16, 2024

CNN — West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin announced Friday that he will not mount a 2024 campaign for president.

“I will not be seeking a third-party run. I will not be involved in a presidential run,” the retiring Democratic senator said in a speech at West Virginia University in Morgantown.

Manchin has been on a national listening tour as he weighed jumping in as a third-party presidential candidate, potentially on the No Labels ticket. He has criticized President Joe Biden for being too liberal but also said that he would refuse to be part of any effort that would help Donald Trump return to the White House.

Manchin had previously set a deadline of this spring to make a decision, but he is pulling the plug now to instead focus on a new group, Americans Together, which promotes moderate politics.

CNN -- West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin will announce Friday that he will not mount a 2024 campaign for president.

The retiring Democratic senator will lay out his decision in a speech at West Virginia University in Morgantown, according to spokesman Jon Kott.

That bill would have catapulted Democratic policies and popularity for years if not decades. Democrats like him are why we can't have nice things. Fuck him.

Lemme guess:

pro coal
pro oil
anti union
anti regulation
anti tax
anti climate science

i’m sure i am missing some things, but “moderate” isn’t one of them.

Biden is our candidate. He has the experience, wisdom, and judgment, and tons of well qualified officials in his administration. Let's just accept it and get him reelected. It's not just one person, it's a whole administration.

In comparison, Trump and his whole administration were a kakistocracy of corruption, incompetence, and openly malicious intent.

He did vote for the Dem side sometimes, esp. on judges, but mostly just obstructed and helped repugs block the good things that Dems wanted to do. We can do better, but probably won't get it from WV. I hope we can pick up a few Senate seats elsewhere, but the map isn't looking very good right now. Our best hope is that Smelvis pulls the whole GOPee ticket down, and costs them a few seats, but that's a slim hope.

I have been trying to drum up support for Gloria Johnson in TN (one of the "Tennessee Three" with Justin Pearson and Justin Jones) who will be running for Senate against Marsha Blackburn. There is a strong contingent of young potential voters in the TN urban areas who have been out in the streets protesting gun violence and other (D) platform issues.

Marsha Blackburn is another despicable creature who needs to have her dim consciousness obliterated. Good luck to Gloria, and thanks again for helping her!

I'm trying to hook up with our leading Senate candidate, Lucas Kunce, against Josh "Haulin' A--" Hawley, another Senate dim bulb. In the interim, I'm donating what $$ I can to his campaign. We gotta do this, in every contested state.

Joe Biden's economy has left that demographic no place to hide or complain. Biden has micro-managed the economy with seed capital for countless programs, industries, manufacturing, energy. He even has our oil output flying while coal is barely hanging on. And btw jobs, jobs, jobs.
