House Won't Pass Stopgap to Avoid Shutdown

Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) said the House will not pass another temporary spending bill to avert a partial government shutdown when the latest deadline expires on March 1, Bloomberg reports.
Ruling out another short-term spending bill raises the chances of a shutdown given how little time Congress has to complete talks on the long-delayed fiscal 2024 spending measure. Current funding for U.S. agencies runs out in two tranches, on March 1 and March 8.

IOW, they want to FORCE Democrats to accept these cuts in order to get a budget deal.

(4,682 posts)House Republicans to Take 2-Week Vacation Amid National Security Threat, Mass Shooting
Story by Jordy Meiselas 1d
This latest press release comes after House Republicans signaled the alarms earlier today about a possible threat to our national security from Russian nuclear weapons in space and as the United States is experiencing another act of gun violence in Kansas City during the Chiefs' Super Bowl parade.
In addition, the House was supposed to consider passing a bipartisan Senate bill to provide aid to our allies overseas, but instead of doing their job, they are taking a vacation (again).
There is a March 1 deadline to avert another shutdown.
