Trump breaks silence on Navalny, casts no blame on Putin

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Donald Trump, who drew criticism as U.S. president for his praise of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, made his first public comment on the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny on Monday in a social media post that cast no blame.

"The sudden death of Alexei Navalny has made me more and more aware of what is happening in our Country," Trump wrote, appearing to link the death to his own political troubles.

"It is a slow, steady progression, with CROOKED, Radical Left Politicians, Prosecutors, and Judges leading us down a path to destruction. Open Borders, Rigged Elections, and Grossly Unfair Courtroom Decisions are DESTROYING AMERICA. WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE, A FAILING NATION! MAGA2024"

It was not clear what similarities Trump was trying to draw with Russia's most prominent opposition leader. Navalny, 47, fought for years against what he called vast corruption in Putin's Russia, ruled by "crooks and thieves."

It is amazing the degree to which the modern Republican party has become complicit in supporting Russian expansionism. Even Haley got it right in noting Trump's failure to condemn Putin. Indeed, Trump used the Navalny's murder to once again denounce America.

and was able to kill an opponent without repercussions. So he is complaining that Russia lets its president get away with murder, but he gets prosecuted for attempting to overturn the election, fraud, rape, stealing state secrets etc.

How this is supposed to attract voters is beyond comprehension. Maybe it's the joke we have for media slavishly chasing him around, cameras and microphones at the ready, blasting every utterance somewhere as if it were newsworthy.

Trump will give Russia classified intel and maybe even weapons to defend against Ukraine. Things will get really interesting if he takes Putin's side in the Israel war too.
