University of Florida terminates all DEI employees to comply with state regulation
Source: ABC WCJB
The University of Florida is firing all employees in positions related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) according to a memo sent on Friday. It follows the passage of a state law in 2023 targeting college funds spent on DEI.
UF officials say they have closed the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, eliminated DEI positions and administrative appointments, and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors. Officials say 13 positions were eliminated and 15 administrative appointments were ended for faculty.

(7,529 posts)Doesn't that also include people with physical disabilities? The call center I worked at actually hired numerous people who for various reasons were confined to wheelchairs or needed walking devices since they were perfectly capable of working a computer and a telephone and I believe the company received tax breaks for being inclusive and supportive of this.

(1,010 posts)Say even a blue state university is advertising a VP of DEI position. Who's gonna jump on that? Between the Washington Free Beacon trying to jam you up for plagiarism and the prospects of these kinds of closures going nation-wide, who'd wanna leave any other academic admin post for that kind of fire?
And don't think they're not coming for the Title IX offices next.

(9 posts)So what's next? Are they going to try to re-establish segregation in education? This whole anti-DEI stuff makes me really angry.
A_Woman_from_MI
(165 posts)and the approach is to make their institutions of (so-called) education as unappealing to non-white, non-christian, non-woke (whatever the hell that means) people as possible. They are doing a good job with that part.
Possible recruiting motto: UF - great school if you don't want to learn anything your parents didn't teach you!

(21,155 posts)Destroying universities, angering Disney for being inclusive, attacking black/brown/yellow minorities and letting life ending illnesses run rampant like (COVID, Measles, malaria, polio etc) and ignoring global climate change. I bet in 5 years that state will be collapsing with Florida refuges fleeing to other states. Which I wonder, if the red states will take their fellow American refugees and provide these white magas with financial assistance to resettle.
That lack of state income tax will continue to invite white Americans looking for a place to retire.

(12,553 posts)In the last 14 months I lost my heating & air guy and my Dr, neither white, because of their no income tax rule. I'm in GA, & now the State is proposing cutting OUR income tax rate slowly over 10yrs.to counter FL & TN. No mention of how to REPLACE that revenue but it'll have to be a sales tax. Which I'm fine with.
We (the nation) lose an ungodly amount of revenue with our ridiculous tax system. Its far too easy for people to pay little or no taxes.

(10,191 posts)The data shows UF isn't a very diverse place. One of the Diversity Office's goals has been to increase the number minority students, and Republicans in Florida apparently don't like that.
