Sargento is recalling shredded and grated cheese products sold in 15 states over concerns they could be contaminated with listeria.
According to information posted on the Food and Drug Administration's website last month, the recall affects thousands of various Sargento-branded cheeses sold in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.
The most heavily affected items were white cheddar cheese products, with 2,633 cases being recalled. These had best-by dates of between March and June 2024.
The recall was initiated Feb. 5.

(169,479 posts)but had bought a name brand recently and had to check whether it was Sargento, which that supermarket sells or something else. I did confirm that it was Kraft that I bought and not Sargento.

(11,005 posts)The USDA has an app called Food Keeper. It's for Android and iPhone. Find it in the App Store.
I receive alerts any time there is a new recall. It's a little confusing to find them. But once you install the app, if you go to the information button at the bottom of the app, the page comes up that lists recalls.
It also has specific information on how to store foods and when to get rid of them, to help keep us all safe.

(11,005 posts)I had food poisoning one time. I don't ever want to go through that again. I have no problem tossing something when I'm not sure if it's still safe to eat.

(7,785 posts)An adrenaline rush. Sargent is my preferred cheese. Because of pricing my latest buying batch is kraft. Need to go check the near empty pkgs now.

(41,560 posts)... also Shop N Save stores. These are the 2 largest grocery chains in the Pittsburgh area.
Even though I normally purchase Giant Eagle's house brand of cheese, their products could easily be manufactured and packaged by Sargento. There's no way to know unless Giant Eagle tells us.
