Netanyahu vows to defy Biden's 'red line' and invade Rafah

Source: Politico

TEL AVIV — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he intends to press ahead with an invasion of the city of Rafah on the southern border of the Gaza Strip in defiance of U.S. President Joe Biden, who has warned such an offensive would be a "red line."

Amid signs of increasing frustration with Netanyahu, the U.S. president told MSNBC on Saturday that he opposed an escalation of the conflict into Rafah, and that he could not accept "30,000 more Palestinians dead."

Relief organizations have warned that an attack on Rafah on the border with Egypt — and now a refuge for about half of Gaza's 2.3 million population — would result in widespread civilian casualties. Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said it would be “a humanitarian catastrophe.”

When asked on Sunday whether Israeli forces would move into Rafah, Netanyahu replied: "We'll go there. We're not going to leave. You know, I have a red line. You know what the red line is, that October 7 doesn't happen again. Never happens again." The PM was referring to the murderous Hamas raid that killed more than 1,160 people in Israel and triggered the war.

Biden isn't making this painful for Netanyahoo, and as long as Israel is getting supplies from the US, he will continue to act with impunity.

This is the perfect opportunity to stop sending them munitions.

I suppose that I wouldn't have been surprised if Netanyahu defied Biden, but to be so openly brazen about it is a major slap in the face. Of course, this is the creep he's been for a long time. Back during the Obama years, Netanyahu bragged that he had the U.S. wrapped around his little finger. The arrogance is stunning.

I think he is really pushing his luck now. How much does he think Biden will take?

but don't think this war is about getting even. This war is a war of defense against Hamas and those who support it - whose mission is to eradicate Israel and kill all Jewish people world wide.

The war would have been over months ago if Hamas returned all hostages and surrendered in the war that they started. Israel hasn't "occupied" Gaza since 2005. It is because of constant attacks by Hamas and other Islamic terrorist groups that this has come to be.

Israel is not fighting to "get even." What does that even mean in this context? If so, then they would have stopped a long time ago after torturing, raping, dismembering and burining Gazans. Israel is fighting so that massacres like the one on October 7th never happens again and that the hostages that Hamas took are returned dead or alive.

I think that it may be you who is naive.

Why isn't there discussions about doing a ceasefire and have UN peacekeepers come in?

The peacekeepers would prevent Israel from further destroying Gaza, prevent Hamas from firing rockets and controlling the Palestinians, and ensure the aid gets to the people.
