New RNC chair accidentally says America is better off now than under Trump

Newly elected Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) Michael Whatley accidentally said America is better off now than under former President Trump, during a Fox News appearance Friday.
Whatley attempted to argue that the country is worse off under President Bidens leadership than it was four years ago with Trump in office, and that the country would improve if the former president were reelected, but he mixed up his words on air.
At the end of the day, this comes down to a very simple contrast between President Trump and President Biden, Whatley said. Were you better off four years ago than you are today? The answer for this entire country is no. I mean, yes.
We are better off today, or, we will be better off under President Trump than we will under President Biden, he stumbled. Whatley took over the leadership position last week. Since then, he has instigated a major reset for the party.

Oh, yeah. I was on lockdown on account of a deadly pandemic and couldn't go anywhere for about a year while the pandemic got worse and people dropped like flies because Trump didn't think it was a big deal and advised people to just drink bleach or shine a UV light up their butt and everything would be fine.

(182,824 posts)I borrowed $15k for 6 semesters finishing up my degree. Over 10 years I paid about $34k on a set payment plan. I had been paying as I could for the 15 years before that - dont know the total on those. My balance (with daily compounded interest to continue) was ..$34k.

(32,062 posts)I had paid that low payment for years. I'm not a math major and I didn't even try to figure out how much I paid (but I'm sure someone worked those numbers and figured out we hit principal - and probably more - already).

Good times. (or not)

Four years ago, I had to dress in personal protective equipment from head to toe in order to visit with every single patient, whether they presented to the clinic with respiratory symptoms or not.
Four years ago, I got the news that the custodian of our medical building, a beloved father and grandfather, and the sweetest man in existence, had died from COVID-19. There was no vaccine yet.
Im definitely better off today than four years ago.

(26,293 posts)So ya I'm better off as I'm no longer scared as I know President Biden will not do anything deliberately to hurt our country where as with Trump as our President I was scared.

(45,447 posts)Spring 2021 was the last time anyone accused me of not being American enough for a job. My American-ness is my most reliable economic indicator my whole life. America went from "they're stealing our jobs" to "Nobody wants to work anymore" as Joe Biden rebuilt America's economy. Life in Trump's America was not great for me even before COVID. Life is awesome for me now. Biden and Harris actually made America great again.
But sure, let's blame the migrant workers who want to grow, pick, and process our food for our high food prices. All while wealthy corporations reap in record high profits and the stock market is at all time highs.

Then there is that whole one-million dead Americans thing that Republicans want to memory-hole. One million empty seats at Thanksgiving, remember that? We're still dealing with 'long Covid' to this day.
The next big thing could be the Japanese Streptococcal A outbreak. It has a 30% fatality rate! Covid was nowhere this bad.

(1,135 posts)Our consumer landscaped looked like something out of the 1980s USSR: Grocers with almost-empty shelves, limited hours with queues to go inside, queues for essentials.
Numerous business went under, especially restaurants.
Black markets were the norm for OTC meds, toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and sanitizing household cleaners like Lysol and bleach.
My husband had to have emergency surgery that year--getting in and out of the hospital was a nightmare. If he hadn't been an emergency case, it would have taken weeks or months to get surgery done because COVID patients required so many resources from every hospital, everywhere.
Yeah, Americans were loving living large in Leningrad 1981.
