Jimmy Carter, more than a year into hospice care, reaches another milestone

Source: ABC News

March 28, 2024, 8:13 PM

Jimmy Carter is a man of many milestones -- and the list keeps growing. Late last week, the former president and Nobel Peace Prize-winning humanitarian marked another year as the longest lived ex-commander in chief, a record he has held since March 2019.

Having begun hospice care in February 2023, he celebrated his 99th birthday in October, surprising even his loved ones, grandson Jason Carter has said.

"It's a true blessing for all of us to have had this much time with him," Jason Carter told ABC News in the fall.

"I think his time in the private sector and the work that he did at The Carter Center, really spending his life among the most marginalized and poorest people in the world and believing in their power to change their own lives and in the power of human rights for them and democracy for them, will be the biggest part of his legacy," the younger Carter, a former state senator and gubernatorial candidate, told ABC News.

But that was bad for our athletes and the Olympics were conceived for peaceful purposes back in Hellenic times. Jimmy was a good man and a great President.

but most importantly walked the walk of how to live an exemplary life.

He and Rosalynn gave much more than they ever took, and that's the mark of true humanitarians.

We didn't deserve either of them.

... I keep telling people that- regardless of their political beliefs- we should all be able to agree that Jimmy Carter is a really good *human being*. And people generally agree, even the reddest, MAGA-est relatives. That's something at least.

I remember when my now Trump-worshiping mother loved and voted for Carter over Reagan. My mom was very progressive in the 70's and early 80's and really influenced my values today. It is sad how her church and fox news has transformed her into someone who openly speaks about how fascism and Trump can be good if it brings order. She is so deeply indoctrinated into believing all the conservative talking points that all evidence about climate change, all the evidence against Trump, all the evidence around the 2020 election and Jan. 6, all evidence around abortion and vaccines, etc. has somehow been fabricated by the left to enrich some unknown people (her arguments are circular and don't make much sense but she gets very upset when I try and get her to explain).

Your story is the same for too many others. By design she, and others like her, have been made to fear and mistrust everything and everybody except for the sources of the propaganda that is poisoning their minds and robbing them of their own will. They see bogeymen behind everything and don't notice the real villains.
You are not alone.

He radiates the light of the Divine from his whole being and that light blesses all that it touches.

He is a truly humble, selfless and kind man who personifies the real message of Christ, and who lives by the Golden Rule - do unto others the way you would have them do unto you.

Jimmy Carter has graced the whole earth with his presence, and it is a better place because he has lived. What an example he sets for us all!
