Donald Trump Threatened With New Legal Headache

Former President Donald Trump could soon face another legal headache as a new complaint looks set to emerge out of a major incident that occurred during his last year in office. Trump is currently facing a barrage of legal issues, including four criminal cases, the first of which, the Manhattan hush money payment case, is set to go to trial on April 15. He is also in the process of launching appeals against various civil rulings, including ones in which he was found liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll and for a business fraud scheme in which he inflated the worth of his assets.
Trump has claimed innocence in all of these cases and accused them of being efforts to harm his 2024 presidential campaign, though legal experts have broadly agreed that much of the evidence against him is legitimate and damning. In a report published on Friday, Law & Crime revealed that a new amended complaint is planned to be filed against the former president by April 12. The development stems from the 2020 lawsuit, Buchanan v. Trump, in which Trump was sued in his official capacity as president by protestors who alleged they were unconstitutionally cleared away by police during an incident in June 2020.
Amid the mass countrywide protests in the summer of 2020 following the murder of George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin, protestors in Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., were forcibly cleared from the area by police using tear gas and batons. This was done at the direction of then-U.S. Attorney General William Barr to clear a path for Trump to walk from the White House to St. John's Episcopal Church for a photo-op of himself holding a bible.
The federal government ultimately settled the case, but damage claims against Trump and other officials in Buchanan were later thrown out, owing to protections for federal officials from civil suits. Now, however, the team behind the suit has been cleared by a judge to file an amended criminal complaint in light of a January 2021 Interior Department's inspector general report which found that Lafayette Square had not been properly cleared and that police had not followed acceptable practices.

(17,023 posts)if I could sue somebody for failing to protect me from traitor's lawlessness.
Sure wish I could. I hope every single person, business, entity, state, country who can will file a lawsuit against the worthless bum and all he does the rest of his crappy life is run through incompetent lawyers and lose appeals. Hoping his future attempts to pervert the law is from jail.

(1,338 posts)What if the Citizens of the United States enter a class lawsuit against Donnie for emotional distress? Defined on one site as:
Emotional distress refers to the psychological or mental suffering experienced by an individual as a result of extreme or traumatic events, actions, or circumstances. It encompasses a wide range of negative emotions, such as fear, anxiety, grief, humiliation, and even shock. Keep in mind that emotional distress can vary in intensity and duration, and its effects can be deeply personal and subjective. Legal claims for emotional distress generally aim to seek compensation for the psychological harm suffered and to hold responsible parties accountable for their actions.

(2,840 posts)I swear, I've lived with PTSD since he got into office. Never having any issue with my blood pressure, it wasn't long in 2016 before my BP started spiking and I had to start in on meds for it. I'm still fighting to get it down and stay down... and it's a losing fight, even with meds. On top of that, I had to add a "kicker" to my venlafaxine, cause it just wasn't cutting it alone for anxiety and depression any longer. So, on top of the emotional distress he's put me through all these years, I've got pharmacy costs throughout this time. Seems like I ought to be able to recoup some of it, since it's directly traceable back to his first year in office! And I know I'm not the only one whose story reads like this!

DENVERPOPS
(8,845 posts)but for some of us, we have been living with severe anxiety, PTSD and a lot of other shit since October 1979......
Carter vs Reagan......
Some of us, (who were watching!!!!!!), saw HW, Cheney, etc commit treason in the month of October, before the November Presidential Election...............It was the first of what we now call the tried and true "October Surprise" done by the Republicans. They release some info at the last second before the Presidential Election that is Bullshit, Corrupt, Completely False, or anything that they can do to try and sway the voters at the last minute to vote for the Republican Party. (Think Comey, torpedoing Hillary with the 2000 *New, just released* email bullshit in Mid October 2015). It's release is done at the last second so the voters have no means of fact checking it, or recognizing it for what it is......a diversion.....
So, in October of 2015, the Repubs needed something to falsely show how supposedly "ineffective" Carter was as President.....
Iran was holding 20? Americans as hostage and they were going to finally release them back to the U.S.....Iran was every bit our enemy as Russia. Behind the scenes, HW and his group of Republican Politicians and probably a bunch of his former workmates at the CIA, went to Iran through back channels and told the Ayatollah that if he waited to release the hostages until after the election, he would get a much better deal from Reagan.....It would make Carter look weak by showing he didn't have what it took to get the Hostages released. (There again, just like the Repubs lied, made Kerry look bad with the entire, made up, lies about the Swift Boat stuff in October 2004) That probably shifted enough votes to Reagan that he defeated Carter......
HW, Cheney, Wolfowitz, etc came in and ran the 8 years, with Reagan as merely a pawn or figurehead. They also committed countless Treasonous Acts with Iran, starting immediately after the swearing in of Reagan......
I was appalled at what I had seen, and what I continued to see ever since......The 12 years of HW was un-fathomable in the Damage to the U.S. and our middle class.
We had a little pause during the Clinton Years.
Then came HW's son "W", and with HW's buddies Cheney/Rumsfeld/etc They, quite literally, corruptly stole the 2000 and 2004 elections. And the "W" years descended on the nation, planting more roots in the destruction of America, and once again, committing many acts of TREASON, starting with 9/11, the BS Iraq war, the list goes on and on. Their acts far out did their actions during the Reagan years.
We had a slight relaxation during the Obama years, but primarily through Racism neutered Obama as best they could. Then they clobbered Hillary with their October Surprises, including the phonied up E Mail bullshit, and gave us the horrors that have plagued the U.S. since Jan of 2016, and continuing through today. With a repeat fully orchestrated for 2024 with the help of the USSC.......
My point is this, there are a number of us who have been keeping track, and dealing with the elevated BP and anxiety attacks by following every move they have made since October of 1979.........
A lot of people FINALLY started becoming aware once it reached a crescendo during the past 7+ years, (thank goodness).....
But as I have said numerous times here on DU, the perfect title for a book written about the past 47 years would be:
WHILE THE NATION SLEPT......
At this point, and believe me, I hate to be so negative, but I honestly feel that we Ain't Seen Nothing Yet...given all that we have seen these past decades.......my prediction is that on November 5th and 6th, our nation has never witnessed, in it's entire history, what we will see on the 5-6 of November.......And it doesn't matter if Biden wins, or Trump wins. What unfolds will be un-fathomable..........
Katie Bar The Door, folks.......

(1,338 posts)But I can tell you how much better I will feel when he is dead.
And why is this suffering not worth suing him over? It is directly traceable to his actions (along with the gross inactions of all those who could stop him but are too afraid to, which could be brought up in our suit). I would love it. I really wish someone would do this. I bet all the participants would donate to billboard and mass mailing costs.... Ok, sorry, getting carried away with this fantasy.
I have no advice for you, except maybe perspective. Hang in there. He will be gone.

You might try getting a 1/4-1/2 tsp of cinnamon daily. it is supposed to help with lowering blood sugar and in some people, bp. I have been putting it in my coffee for a few years, and my sugar is lower. BP isn't great. Maybe it could be worse!

NanaCat
(1,251 posts)Oh--you want to pretend he's not of that religion, when he is. Guess what? People who aren't Christians don't marry as Christians, and don't have their children baptised as Christians. He's done both.
It doesn't matter if he hasn't read the book; neither has the vast majority of other Christians. It doesn't matter if he doesn't go to church often or at all; tens of millions of other Christians have their bums in a pew as often as he does. It doesn't matter if what he did was performative or just plain silly and meaningless; he's not the first nor last Christian to put on a ridiculous show in support of something silly or that makes no sense to anyone else. It doesn't matter that he says and does awful things, because Christians since the beginning of the religion have said and done awful things. And it especially doesn't matter that he uses his own religion to BS others of the same faith--because he is neither the first nor will he be the last Christian to do that.
What I'd like to know is how anything he did that day is any different from any of the other ridiculous things Christians do to promote their religion in the public square? How is it different from all the (legally sanctioned!) braying about gawd in the Pledge of Allegiance, or having their gawd on (legally sanctioned!) 'filthy lucre,' or all the times politicians bray 'gawd bless America,' or the casual custom of having people swear to gawd in courtooms and official oaths, or wanting to post the 10 Commandments on government property, or--
I mean, really, how was his behaviour all that different or more odious from what other Christians have been and are doing 24/7/365 in the political square in the US of A?

(25,983 posts)This was some blocks away from Lafayette Square, but part of the same pattern of force being used in various parts of DC that day. It just blew my mind at the time; so dangerous (and illegal) with neither need nor excuse for it. I don't recall that anything concrete ever came of the 'investigation.'
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/investigations/helicopter-protests-washington-dc-national-guard/
Archive link: https://archive.ph/iNG3s
Hemmed in by police on all sides, Camellia Magness feared that the military helicopter descending on downtown Washington might unleash a final assault on protesters.
It was June 1, nearly three hours after federal police in riot gear charged largely peaceful demonstrators as they gathered near the White House to protest after the killing of George Floyd. Magness and others had lingered downtown past a 7 p.m. curfew.
Military helicopters had been flying high overhead, seeming to track their movements. But shortly before 10 p.m., a Black Hawk swept low over protesters in Chinatown and held its position, producing gusts that snapped thick tree limbs and swirled the air with volleys of dust and broken glass, sending many running for cover in panic and confusion.
I thought they were going to land, Magness, 24, said, fearing soldiers would pour out and force protesters into waves of police.
Good luck to the Lafayette Square protestors with their criminal complaint. Go get him!
