An individual set themselves on fire on Friday afternoon outside of former President Donald Trump's Manhattan criminal trial. Several news networks like Fox News and CNN reported that a man was seen setting himself in flames outside of the courthouse on Friday. Newsweek reporter Katherine Fung said, "We hear sirens from inside the courthouse."
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI) for the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Newsweek that first responders were "aiding a person outside the courthouse." CNN anchor Laura Coates was seen reporting on the former president's hush money trial in New York City and was heard saying that a man had set fire to themselves "and has emblazoned himself."
"We are watching a man who is fully emblazoned in front of the courthouse today. We are watching multiple fires breaking out around his body and person. We have seen an arm that has been visible, that has been engulfed in total flames," Coates said on air. "There is total chaos...people are wondering right now if people are in danger." Fung, who has been inside the courtroom all week, reported that some smoke remained after first responders arrived on the scene.

"Themself" was the way it's posted on the site. No proofreaders, apparently.

(7,530 posts)"Emblazoned" most usually means "covered with." I found a definition of "emblaze" which is also "to cover; adorn; light up" though it can mean 'to ignite' though almost nobody uses it that way. Nobody says "I'm going to emblazon the campfire."
The most correct word would be "immolate" which means "to sacrifice, usually by burning".

How sad it is that some individuals believe that scientists, scholars, historians, economists, and journalists have devoted their entire lives to deceiving them, while a reality tv star with decades of fraud and exhaustively documented lying is their only beacon of truth and honesty.

(1,439 posts)Before learning his age, I would have guessed about 40.
The mid-90s Simpsons are part of his manifesto and he echos the "not a dimes worth of difference" criticisms of the Democrats propagated by Nader suggests the 2000 election might have been the first one he experienced with intellectual maturity (that is, at least an adolescent).
He makes the idea that Republicans and Democrats are secretly teaming up to screw over regular people into his whole personality and then reinterprets his entire experience including Simpsons episodes he first saw as a child to support that notion.

Notice which side is not featured? They are but lip service for the most part in his conspiracy laden manifesto.
onenote
(42,739 posts)These statements are just "lip service"? Point to one pro-Trump statement in his writings. There are none. But there are these statements:
"The U.S. government is fully involved in this totalitarian con: To illustrate its bipartisan support, Ill note that nearly every participant of the Clinton Global Initiative has ties to cryptocurrency, while two of the biggest tech VCs who participated are Trump associates Josh Kushner and Anthony Scaramucci."
"...our government is conning us completely. That Bill Clinton was secretly on (former CIA Director) George H.W. Bushs side, and that the Democrat vs. Republican division has been entirely manufactured ever since: Clinton is with Bush; Gore is with Bush; Trump is with Hillary, and so on. When they present themselves in public, they are acting as characters that are against one another, practicing kayfabe as wrestlers do.
As it turns out, we have a secret kleptocracy: Both parties are run by financial criminals whose only goals are to divide, deceive, and bleed us dry. They divide the public against itself and blame the other party while everything gets worse and more expensive and handful of people take all the money."
"In the decades since [the election of George H.W. Bush], the angry partisanship between democrats and republicans was all a fascist charade to divide the public against itself while they all ramped up militarism, privatized industry, and gutted social safety nets. Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump, Biden: These are characters playing pretend, just like professional wrestlers."
Do those sound the words of a Trumper to you? There isn't a single positive word about Trump anywhere in his ravings. Do you really think someone who is decrying militarism, privatization, and the gutting of social safety nets is a Trumper? His lawsuit against the Clinton Foundation was a nonsensical pile of conspiratorial madness in which the Foundation was just one of 50 co-defendants that he thinks somehow are tied to a cryptocurrency-related Ponzi scheme against the world. The only thing that's surprising is that he didn't name cartoon character Lisa Simpson as a defendant since he believes she played an immensely important role in this conspiracy ( along with the Doors, Beatles, Devo, and a list far too long to repeat here ).

If a trumper idiot were to set his self on fire, that act would be on the Fourth of July and would be preceded by "Hold my beer!".

(4,554 posts)The person was obviously in need of mental help.
I had a will never forget it as long as I live encounter with someone who self-immolated.
Working in a hospital, in the Bronx, not paying attention where I was going and ran smack dab into such a person. He was ambulating just fine. I could see all his scarred skin and bandages right up close. I was in my early 20s and still remember his name. He was well known at the hospital and was mentally ill. He survived but not sure what happened to him since I was only there for a summer Pharmacy Internship.

Surviving burns is a long, nasty process.
I have to think this person had some pretty intense mental health issues that might have resulted in something like this even if TFG had never been born.
This is just sad.
ProfessorGAC
(65,136 posts)...I had a occasional guitar student (friend of 2 regular students) who got very badly burned in a garage incident. (After 40 years, I can't recall the details.)
It took YEARS of treatment & surgeries before he was out of the woods.
Now an adult, you'd meet few more well-adjusted people, despite the trauma he experienced.
He was one tough & resilient guy.

(43,254 posts)over the predicament that Trump is in? Is that safe to postulate? So rigid in his mind that he knew what was happening and eager to sacrifice his own life in a gruesome manner. Horrible. I don't know where to put blame, if any. This doesn't even qualify as fighting like hell.
