US Agencies Say Putin Didn't Order Navalny's February Death: WSJ

Source: Bloomberg

April 27, 2024 at 12:30 AM EDT

US intelligence agencies have found that Russian President Vladimir Putin likely didn’t order opposition leader Alexey Navalny’s death at a prison camp in February, the Wall Street Journal reported.

While the assessment didn’t dispute Putin’s culpability for the death, it found that the timing possibly wasn’t as intended by Putin, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter. The finding is broadly accepted within the intelligence community and shared by several agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the State Department’s intelligence unit, according to the report.

The mysterious death of Navalny, an anti-corruption activist and Russia’s most prominent opposition figure, at an Arctic prison in February triggered a fresh round of tensions between Russia and the West at a time relations were fractured by the Ukraine conflict.

The death also sparked the biggest unauthorized protests since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine. US President Joe Biden and other leaders have held the Russian leader ultimately at fault based on years of the Kremlin’s targeting of Navalny.

I don't click on right wing propaganda. Trying to put lipstick on a pig doesn't change the fact that it's still a pig.

I don't have (or want) a sub to WSJ although before Murdoch bought it, my mom had a subscription to it where the physical paper was mailed daily to our house back in the '70s.

Bloomberg has a business media empire and has also focused millions and millions of his dollars to candidates and causes related to gun control (meaning Democrats).

Careful not to dismiss things out of hand just because they don't fit a pre conceived narrative. Maybe it's accepted among those with far more info on the subject than we. Maybe it's not. It is possible though.

the minute after Putin failed to kill him the first time. He was a dead man when he was sentenced to 19yrs and sent to Siberia. Even if Putin didn’t order him killed at that moment, Putin killed him.

So there’s no audio of Putin saying “murder Navalny” so that’s that in Magaturdville.

He didn't 'order' a killing. He just didn't want him back. He was shot at his place.

The rations do not provide enough calories to sustain someone performing hard labor and there exist extremely limited access to health care in the russian prison system. Additionally, many prisons are sweltering hot during the summer and extremely frigid during the winter.

Moving him to Siberia was almost certainly to isolate him from the world, and no one in power was going to shed a tear if he accidentally died in custody.

I still believe my eyes, when we saw a video of him the day before his death. He looked fine and in good spirits less than 24 hours before he died.

Trump's left-over fans in intelligence need to go to russia and stay there.
