Biden faces new Democratic pressure to rein in Israel

Source: Axios

A group of nearly 90 House Democrats is urging President Biden to consider halting sales of offensive weaponry to Israel over concerns about continued restrictions on the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Why it matters: It comes as increasingly intense pro-Palestinian protests have rocked college campuses across the country, alarming many Democrats.

State of play: The lawmakers, led by Reps. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) and Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.), cited a memo Biden signed in February requiring Israel to provide assurances on the preservation of human rights in Gaza.

Among the assurances is that the country will "facilitate and not arbitrarily deny, restrict, or otherwise impede" aid into Gaza, or else U.S. weapons transfers would be halted.

Let's do even better- demand Netanyahu step down and Likud as well. Then kick Hamas off the negotiating table, restore the Palestinian Authority, target Hamas, and then get to a two state solution. In addition, tell Qatar to stop protecting Hamas. This should not be that difficult.

It amazes me that Israel uses Hamas as an excuse to commit genocide in Gaza, while Qatar protects Hamas leaders. Umm, duh- start going after the leaders in Qatar!

"Qatar has been a key financial supporter of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, transferring more than $1.8 billion to Hamas over the years.[1][2] In consultation with the U.S. and Israeli governments, $30 million were transferred monthly to Hamas, according to a Qatari official interviewed by Der Spiegel in 2023.[3]"

Anybody else see the problem here? WE also supported Hamas, so did the Israeli government. The only question to ask now is WHY? I think the answer to that is pretty clear. And it should not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Netanyahu wanted Gaza, and he figured out a way to get it- maybe. If we let him.

'This is pointless. Israel, we are going to ignore you and not send you a single thing (*) until you sort out yourself and the quagmire you got yourself into.'

If Netanyahu realises he is taking his country into a death spiral, he may change tactics. Non-violent tactics.

US involvement in wars in other places doesn't have a good success rate, as far as history goes. (WW2 excepted.)

Perhaps the student unrest got a few influential people listening?

(*) Except for humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

But I don't expect these pro-Hamas protesters to GAF about that. It doesn't fit the neat little anti-Israel narrative they've cooked up in their naive, self-entitled American minds.
