Biden's general election strategy: Less is more

WASHINGTON — As President Joe Biden ramps up his re-election effort, his campaign is also scaling back how much he says on the trail, part of a larger new strategy to hone a sharper message he’ll take into the general election, according to Biden aides. The less-is-more approach aims for quality over quantity when it comes to the president’s public appearances, aides said.

“There’s a strategic advantage at this point in the race to boiling down your message to the three or four most salient, compelling arguments for why President Biden should be re-elected,” said TJ Ducklo, the Biden campaign’s senior adviser for communications. “That will often translate to the stump [speech] being whittled down to its sharpest, most dynamic form. That’s what you’re seeing.”

The approach also has the appearance of a strategy aimed at minimizing the potential for Biden to make mistakes in a razor-close election. Some of Biden’s verbal missteps have occurred when he’s talking at length, veers off the prepared text or answers a reporter’s question when that wasn’t part of the plan.

Shorter, crisper remarks from Biden are part of his campaign’s broader strategy of having him appear more in smaller settings that the president’s aides believe serve him better than large, traditional rallies with voters.

This is also an artifact of the pandemic, where even a "virtual" convention (which happened in 2020) was found to still be effective in this increasingly "online/streaming" world.

Robert De Niro was not always political. But he is now, thanks to Donald Trump. The award-winning actor sits down with Stephanie Ruhle to discuss the danger he believes Trump poses to American democracy.

I love that no one significant is turning out to support him, outside or inside the court.

but anyone within the radius of NY's TV/radio broadcasts, like here in Philly. Used to be able to pick up their channel 7 on the old analog TV and regularly listened to WCBS (880), WABC (770), and even WNBC (660, when they used to play music before the call letters changed to WFAN, and they went "sports talk" ).

Bloomberg described him well -

I can pick up WCBS 880, 1010 WINS, and WFAN 660 on my car radio. In fact, I set my presets to 880 and 1010.

I don't really listen to the FAN because I'm a Met fan, not a Yankee fan, and I didn't change team loyalties with addresses.

10. I still turn on WCBS every once in awhile (although Philly's local CBS affiliate KYW cover the same CBS news blips)

I also used to listen to WABC's talk shows including catching Rash Limpball's first broadcast back in the '80s when he took over Lynn Samuel's old slot.

with no more than a dozen Rs who voted for VSP in 2020. Vet them for moderate or middle of the road
individuals, no magats allowed. And watch Biden give intelligent answers to their questions while showing
them VSP's answers to the same questions.

Get some Rs on camera saying for the first time ever they're voting for a Democrat.

Then I remember who owns them.

I hope he has a meltdown so epic & so public that the local news stations across the country can't help but cover it. Fox, too. Who cares about the other two.
