Grover Norquist: 'Tea Party Two Is Going To Dwarf Tea Party One (if Obama pushes us off the cliff)'

Source: Huffington Post

As elected officials from both sides of the partisan aisle embed themselves in fiscal cliff negotiations, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist remains at the center of the conversation.

In a Sunday roundtable discussion on NBC's "Meet The Press," Norquist issued a warning to President Barack Obama.

"Tea party two is going to dwarf tea party one if Obama pushes us off the cliff," Norquist said. "Let's not pretend who's pushing us over the cliff."

In my mind, going over the Fiscal Cliff is a done deal.

Next up, raising the debt limit.

The President must stand firm and must not cave to bullies during the debt limit fracas.

I hope the President gets to make a list of programs to sequester.
I hope that list is heavy on Republican sacred cows.
Which programs can the President sequester/freeze by Executive order?

I would love to see a thread, somewhere, listing Republican sacred cows.
I honestly don't have such a list.
I would love to see a check mark by those programs that can be frozen/sequestered by Executive order.

The Koch brothers do fund the Tea Party don't they?

Congress passed bill A that says "Spend this much".

Congress passed bill B that says "Don't borrow more than this".

If nothing changes, those two laws will be in conflict. Obama can't follow bill A and spend the money, because that would run afoul of bill B. Likewise, Obama can't follow bill B and not borrow money, because that would run afoul of bill A.

When this happened in the past, the Executive branch picked which of the two laws they will be following and asked Congress to resolve the conflict.

So Obama can choose to follow bill A and ignore bill B until Congress resolves the conflict.

Summon Grover to the fucking White House for it.

Order him to get out there and tell America and the world that he, The Most Important Yard Gnome In History and the ATI, runs America now. Not the ELECTED President of the United States, not the ELECTED Representatives of the House, not the ELECTED members of the Senate and not the APPOINTEES of the Supreme Court, but Grover Norquist, Self-Appointed High EconoPope and The Most Important Yard Gnome In History. All of the aformentioned people answer to Grover now.

Say that the American people needs come second to those of the wealthy, the BETTER and MORE EQUAL citizens of this nation, thanks to a sacred and unbreakable pledge The Most Important Yard Gnome In History wrote when he was 12 years old. I'm sure Americans are going to want to be further scared to death of this Fiscal Cliff nonsense thanks to The Most Important Yard Gnome In History's petulant foot stomping, diaper-shitting and insistent whining that the oh-so-oppressed wealthy not pay even one more red cent in tax dollars.

Press is all yours, Yard Gnome. PLEASE PROCEED.

So GOP won't cooperate in the current Congress, pushing the US off
the fiscal cliff.

Then they won't cooperate in the new Congress, preventing all tax
cuts from being passed.

Then they blame Obama.

It's a plan. It flies in the face of GOP obstructionism, of which the
citizenry is well aware, but it's a PR plan.

The GOP doesn't realize Obama now has the public's attention.
The PR power of the Presidency helped in the campaign.
It won't be silenced.

I put some of the blame on the media hosts who give this wacko a free platform to spout his un American tax policy. When they have the opportunity does the host or a fellow guest ask where his funding comes from? The media should not be giving him credence by giving him a free platform to spout his tax policy.

Boy oh boy. This episode of Press The Meat is one for the record books. If you didn’t know that Grover was a co-founder of the K Street Project and the host of his infamous Wednesday morning meetings, you might think he was really concerned about the integrity of the political process!

DAVID GREGORY: Grover, I want to start with you as we get first reaction to Secretary Geithner. the line in the sand is clear, and that is that the administration, the president, says that Republicans will indeed blink, that they will ultimately have to acquiesce, tax rates have to go up.

NORQUIST: Well, your interview with him was very, very helpful to me because in the past, there have been some Republicans who thought that maybe the administration, like Clinton, was going to be reasonable, that they might put real reforms like welfare reform like Clinton did on the table. what we just heard was no reforms. He even took the $1 trillion in spending cuts they agreed to, to the debt ceiling, took that off. So we’ll spend $1 trillion more there [...] this is a massive collection of spending increases and tax increases. Every Republican who had impure thoughts of maybe I could raise taxes a little because the other guy would be reasonable has to go back to the drawing board. They have just been told there are no real reforms in this budget at all.

GREGORY: But what about the –

NORQUIST: $1.6 trillion in tax increases, and some of the savings are actually tax increases.

GREGORY: How about the direct point? The Treasury Secretary telling me, look, Republicans are not going to stand in the way of tax rates going up. True or false?

NORQUIST: Republicans want to continue the Bush tax cuts and the extenders and the AMT patch and so on. And what we did two years ago, what Clinton signed two years ago, with a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate did two years ago, is exactly what we should do now to start with. It’s the president who is threatening to raise taxes on the middle class if he doesn’t stamp his feet and get his way. He needs to get into a room with cameras there and negotiate. That was all show and no economics. Have it in front of C-SPAN cameras. If the Republicans are reasonable, we’ll see that. If not, we’ll see that. Have cameras there.

Actually, Grover, it wasn’t Clinton – it was President Obama who signed that. But it appears you’re feeling a little insecure and shaken up lately. I wonder why?

And if you want to negotiations to take place on C-SPAN, fine. Just as soon as your Wednesday morning meetings are televised, too. Only fair, right?

"The tea-party will be bigger, the democrats will pay if the reform the filibuster, The Dems better cut medicare if they want a deal, Democrats better not nominate Susan Rice, etc. etc.'

The republicans are weak, they have no real power and even less in the next congress, so the republicans try to bully and all they have is treats....nothing else - Ignore them....Republicans certainly don't have the majority of the American people behind them.....they have nothing but lies and threats!!
