WASHINGTON A GOP-controlled House committee investigating the special committee that probed the Jan. 6 attack and Donald Trumps efforts to overturn the 2020 election sent a letter Wednesday to that panels star witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, asking her to hand over numerous communications with key Jan. 6 figures, as well as those related to her book deal.
In the letter, first obtained by NBC News, Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., chair of the House Administration subcommittee on oversight, asked Hutchinson to turn over all communications through this month with former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., the Jan. 6 panels vice chair, and a number of top Trump White House officials. They include former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows; former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin; former White House deputy chief of staff Anthony Ornato; former White House senior adviser Eric Herschmann; and former White House counsel Pat Cipollone.
In addition, Loudermilk asked Hutchinson for communications related to potential publishing or book deals or related compensation," as well as on employment after the White House; the 25th Amendment, which covers removing a president from power; and her itinerary for a trip to the Floridas Gulf Coast in early 2021.
Last fall, Hutchinson wrote a best-selling book about the events of Jan. 6, Enough.

(209,618 posts)I'm listening to Liz Cheney's book and when the January 6th Select Committee was supposed to be "bipartisan," Kevin McCarthy initially appointed Gym Jordan as one of the members. Nancy Pelosi, who set up the committee, rejected Jordan and one other of the five McCarthy appointed since they'd been outspoken in their allegiance to TFG, so he pulled them all - and that's how the Committee ended up with Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger as the only Republicans. And when it got underway, Liz Cheney, who had barely dealt with Nancy Pelosi before, said that she couldn't have done a better job, provided the Committee with everything they asked for and needed. And Jordan refused to honor his subpoena, issued because he'd been in touch with TFG on January 6th. And they knew if they filed an objection it would likely take years and they knew that they didn't have much time because the Republicans were likely to get a House majority in the midterms.

(131,903 posts)and how McCarthy wanted to put their biggest circus clowns in the middle of it, basically to scuttle the whole thing. All the back and forth on that meant that the final version of the Committee didn't come into being until June 30 (with official start date of July 1, 2021), almost 6 months after January 6.
