'Not Good Judgment': GOP Senators Ding Samuel Alito Over Upside-Down Flag

WASHINGTON ― Republican senators criticized Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito over the flying of an upside-down American flag at his house following the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building.
Emotions are apparently high in that neighborhood but no, its not good judgment to do that, Sen. Lindsey Graham, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, told HuffPost on Monday. I dont know what role ― he said his wife was insulted and got mad ― I assume that be true, but hes still a Supreme Court justice. And, you know, people have to realize that moments like that, to think it through.
Last week, The New York Times revealed that the upside-down flag flew outside the conservative justices home for several days. Alito said that his wife put up the upside-down flag after a dispute with neighbors over insulting language on yard signs, including one sign that blamed her for the Jan. 6 riot.
The upside-down flag became a symbol of the Stop the Steal movement following Trumps 2020 presidential election loss and was displayed by some of his supporters who clung to baseless election conspiracy theories. Before that, it was widely recognized as a symbol of distress or protest.

(3,523 posts)He and Roberts won't talk about ths EVER. Never get a question about it. Hide until it blows over. Like it never happened. Im sure most Americans don't know anything about this story...and if they do, don't care or see relevance to their lives.
SAD.

So is robbing a bank...
In other countries, Alito would be in jail for treason. Instead, we call it "poor judgement."

(10,478 posts)how this incident as given Repubs ownership of the upside-down flag. I mean, they claim EVERYTHING for themselves. They long ago claimed the flag right-side-up. In my neighborhood there were quite a few upside down flags in 2016 when Trump got elected. One kept hers that way until Biden was inaugurated.
And no, there is absolutely no definition of the upside-down flag that makes it OK to be flown that way outside a Supreme Court justice's home. It's a political statement one way or the other. Supreme Court justices, and there SOs, used to know better.
