Lawyers found classified docs in Trump's bedroom 4 months after Mar-a-Lago search
Source: Politico
Four months after the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago estate, Donald Trumps attorneys discovered four documents marked classified in his personal bedroom.
That revelation was among several cited by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell in a newly unsealed 2023 opinion that found prosecutors had presented compelling evidence that Trump knowingly stashed national security documents in his home and then tried to conceal them when the Justice Department tried to retrieve them.
In her 87-page opinion, Howell said the likelihood that Trump committed crimes was a basis to permit special counsel Jack Smith to question the former presidents attorney Evan Corcoran on topics that would normally be shielded by attorney-client privilege.
Prosecutors, Howell said, had demonstrated that Trump knew Corcoran had been tasked in June 2022 with informing the government that all classified materials had been returned, a representation that the former president
knew to be wrong.

(2,332 posts)Even when accused, you don't go to jail if you're out on your own recognizance or make bail before a trial. If you do go to trial, you only go to jail if you're convicted and sentenced to prison. And all of that is especially true for rich white people.
Nobody's ever made any of that a mystery.

(13,477 posts)It was actually at Bedminster that Trump was waving around the classified document about Iran. That alone should have persuaded a judge that a search warrant was justified. Now it appears that Cannon can prevent a trial any time soon and perhaps forever if he wins in November. This trial should have been a slam dunk.

The damage is incalculable.
Yes the DOJ is complicit in the travesty.

(13,003 posts)Jared sold the Saudi's intel on all military and their weapons for all countries within a thousand miles.....What else would be worth two billion dollars??????????
Putin probably got anything and everything we had for free.
Much of the stolen intel is "shared" intel coming from other countries intelligence gathering. They will never share any intel with the U.S. ever again. The stolen intel also involves countless spy personnel and contacts info from the U.S. and all the countries that shared intelligence......
The day after Cheney/Rumsfeld outed to the world that Valerie Plame was A CIA under cover operative, I can only imagine there were bodies dropping all over the world....(They disclosed her identity to get back at her husband saying the "Yellow Cake" Uranium that Rummy claimed Iraq possessed, was pure bull crap)
Irish_Dem
(81,251 posts)I am sure the CIA did a damage assessment concerning the Plame outing by Cheney/Rumsfeld.
It would be classified of course so we don't know the extent.
But Plame was said to be a higher level section chief with extensive knowledge of dirty bombs in the MidEast.
So all the operatives below her, and the civilian company which was her cover, and her knowledge was all burned. All damaged. National Security was put at risk.
We know that soon after Trump entered the WH, there was a big uptick in CIA asset deaths and disappearances.
So Trump most likely disclosed this information. CIA assets take a long time to develop into meaningful operatives. Also the methods used, strategies, etc is exposed. So the damage was great.
In terms of Jared, it was said he was instrumental in providing intel regarding Jamal Khashoggi before his murder by the Saudi royal family. Was that worth $2 billion. Probably not. So what else did Kushner do for the Saudis?
One of my theories is that Kushner acted as bag man for many of Trump's classified doc deals. Trump had no idea how to get the docs, what they were worth, and the process of turning them over. He needed help to pull off all of this. So maybe Kushner got rewarded for being Trump's classified doc sales manager.
Would else might account for Kushner's huge reward from the Saudis. There were rumors that Kushner helped the Saudis by facilitating their purchase of Pegasus spyware from Israel. And certainly Saudi wanted nuclear secrets.
One of the Russia/China goals is to break up the democratic country alliances and yes Trump giving/selling classified formation greatly damaged the trust amongst US allies. Who would trust the US again? Trump's lack of support for NATO has also rattled our allies. So this was worth a great deal to our enemies. Damaging the alliances between democratic countries.
What information do our enemies want? Our spy network and nuclear capability information. Location of our nuclear silos and subs. Military weapons and hardware. China would love intel on our stealth fighters. China loves stealing intellectual property. I am not sure what the entire list of desired information would be.
I agree, Putin may have gotten intel from Trump for free. Putin had already invested quite a bit in installing Trump into the WH. That debt had to be repaid. Putin probably made it very clear that Trump would not be allowed to renege on the deal.

(2,332 posts)Isn't remotely the same thing as knowing it for a fact.
Brennan can say whatever he believes, of course, but there's no reason to lend credence to anything he says on the topic unless he presents evidence to back up that belief.
So who cares what he believes? I want TSF in jail as much as anyone, but it won't happen based on some old crank's beliefs. It will happen when there's EVIDENCE to nail him to the wall. Sticking to reality doesn't result in so many disappointments as counting on unsubstantiated beliefs to do anything worthwhile.

John Brennan is certainly not some "old crank." He is a highly respected former CIA director.
My discussion has nothing to do with Trump's court cases.

(22,174 posts)I don't think it too late to do a search at Bedminster. DO it then start a different trial there. Why Not? Cannon was hand picked for a reason. ( i know, there is no proof that she was, BUT she was!) Hell it's not even investigated if she was or not. Jack is the right man, but holy shit i think he just easy going with this dimwit judge. Get another judge involved, IF there is still classified material at Bedminster.

(23,174 posts)the easier it is for Americans in general to blow off the importance of the documents traitor stole. My perception of what I see as headlines about this story is that the agencies in charge of getting the documents back took their time as long as they could until a concerned person here and there started asking questions about the documents and their location. Then, in slo-mo, the agencies acted, and except for a few people here and there, again are taking their time. Is there a plan to net a bunch of traitors? Is the damage already done? Is it ok for me to take top secret documents and store them in my bathroom? Or show them to friends? If it isn't okay for me, why is it ok for a known traitor to take them and show them to known enemies of the U.S.A.? Or am I being hyperbolic?

(3,719 posts)Without divulging too much about myself, I have first hand insight into USG classified materials, how it works, how they should be handled and what the consequences are of data spills. (Not the specific docs in this case. Rather, general OpSec in working with classified.)
Folks, of all the things Trump is facing - election malfeasance in Georgia, financial crimes in New York, sedition/Jan6 charges in DC - the classified documents case in Florida is the most serious by orders of magnitude.
The DOJ should be using every tool at their disposal, from court procedures, appeals, legal maneuvering, lobbying congress and public information campaigns to get the ClassDocs trial back on track as soon as is absolutely possible. They should drop charges against Trump elsewhere if it could free up resources to build and execute an air tight case. That's how serious the docs case is.
The Democrats should be agitating almost every day with TV appearances, public statements, proposed legislation - whether or not it would be voted on - highlighting the damage and seriousness of removing classified documents from their secure facilities and parading them around Mar-a-Lago.
In my opinion, little else matters. The classified data that he leaked to friends and probably gave directly to the Russians has a far greater potential for damage to US security than even his Jan 6 transgressions. We still don't know what's out there. We still don't know what was copied before it was given back to the FBI.
This man is a traitor to his country and must not be elected again. He MUST be put in prison for the rest of his life.

I have to believe that there is a huge amount of stuff being intentionally hidden. Stuff we will never see or hear about if Trump is corruptly put back in office. It will be destroyed. Including alot of stuff in the National Archives, ETC.
We must not forget that it wasn't just Trump, his Spawn, and Jared.........It was the entire Republican Senate that were complicit.
If it weren't for them, Trump would have been impeached and thrown out of office the first week of his so called Presidency.....
