Israel's Rafah operation not a 'major' offensive - US

Source: BBC

The US does not believe Israel has launched a full-scale invasion of Rafah in southern Gaza, White House spokesman John Kirby has said.

Mr Kirby's remarks came hours after Israeli forces were reported to have reached the centre of the city and seized a strategically important hill overlooking the nearby border with Egypt.

He was also responding to questions about an Israeli air strike and a resulting fire on Sunday that killed at least 45 Palestinians at a tented camp for displaced people.

Israel says it believes the fire could have been caused by the explosion of weapons stored by Hamas.

What's next, double secret probation?

The US government will not enforce any standard of decency on the Israeli state apparatus.

Israel’s stated goal of waging this war to eradicate Hamas is not achievable, even if they finish the genocide they have started and kill every Palestinian in Gaza. Yes, they may kill a few low-level fighters here and there, but Hamas has had years to build their escape tunnels and plan last-minute retreats. What Israel is doing us hardening attitudes in support of Hamas and creating the next generation of fighters. Israel had the moral high road on October 8. They no longer do.

I don't like criticizing my country, but this is not where I want us to be.
The question was appropriate. How far does Israel have to go?

Just fucking stop it!

This is why we are failing as a nation, weaponization and equivocation. Everything is being weaponized, including long held agreements of protection for isreal.

We are facilitating a fucking genocide while looking the other way and saying, "nuh uh" to it while GIVING the offenders the fucking weapons!

Makes us the same brand of hypocrites as the offenders.

I, of course, will still vote for him. He's not perfect as shown by his lack of action against Israels' killing of Palestinian civilians, but he is miles better than the opposition.

11. On the one hand, a subsidized US ally is murdering innocent civilians en masse

But on the other hand, someone on an internet posting board has offered insufficiently rapturous praise for the president.

Yeah, I can see how that’s the bigger point to be challenged in the discussion.

12. After all, they only killed 2 Hamas operatives. (Oh, and 45 innocent Gaza civilians, by the way)

And who knows how many of those decapitated Palestinian babies might've grown up to join Hamas one day. So, no, one little incendiary device is not a big deal to you or me or any of the rest of the world that doesn't give a damn about Palestinian lives.

We had a saying in the office, "pretzel logic". It meant one had to twist and turn so much to justify your position or decision, it made a pretzel.
