Seniors hospitalized after lining up in the heat for Trump's Arizona rally

Donald Trump's first post-conviction rally was scheduled to start at 2 p.m on Thursday at the Dream City Church in Phoenix, Arizona, but many hopeful attendees landed in the hospital before he even took the stage.
According to MTN, many people were lined up outside of the church well before doors officially opened at 10 a.m. and the brutal heat began to take its toll. The Phoenix Fire Department was on hand to treat those affected, many of whom were seniors, transporting just under a dozen people to be treated for heat exhaustion.
Per reporting by Forbes, "Phoenix hit 111 degrees around 3 p.m.tying the daily heat record set in 2016, according to the National Weather Serviceand marking the first day the Valley reached 110 degrees this year." Having caught wind of this, resulting coverage of the hospitalizations by several outlets, and comments made by many on social media, turned a stink eye to Trump for putting his followers at risk.
"Trump takes 6 days off from campaigning then sends 11 people to the hospital holding a rally at 2:00 PM in Arizona in June when its 108 degrees," writes Ron Filipkowski, Editor-in Chief of MTN, in a post to X. "He doesnt care at all about these people. He wants their money & their votes so he can acquire power. When will the rubes wake up?" Perhaps loopy from the heat himself, Trump's speech at the Turning Point USA sponsored event included a rather creative swipe at President Biden, accusing him of falling out of airplanes and helicopters.

(2,332 posts)When I was in Texas for basic training, the hottest part of the day was around 5 pm. The humidity retained the heat longer and longer.
I just checked San Antonio's weather over at Accuweather because they do an hourly forecast. High temp of 100 expected at 5 pm today. Tomorrow the temp will max out at 5 pm, to a 'mere' 98.
Birmingham, Alabama--same thing. High temps peak at around 5 pm.
Little Rock, AR hits peak temperature at around 4 pm.
High temps in late afternoon is the norm in many southern states. So, no, high temps don't usually hit around 2 pm unless you're in a part of the country where that's the norm.

(22,456 posts)...so-called mature adults chose to stand outside for hours in 111 degree heat, isn't there something in the tax code about churches NOT endorsing political candidates?
jaxexpat
(7,794 posts)It's mostly that the state cannot tax churches because .....................honestly, I don't know why.
Trump-humpers, lined up in the desert heat for hours to be conned by a rapist/felon. That's weird enough. I thought it galling that it was somehow okay for the FD to treat these morons for heat related issues but, in Georgia, one cannot, legally, offer drinking water to people in line to vote, no matter how many hours they've waited.

DENVERPOPS
(13,003 posts)compared to the Catholic Youth Descending on Denver for World Youth Day in '93? or '94"...............
Declared the largest Mass Casualty Incident in History at the time...........300-400 THOUSAND catholic youth, without fluids to hydrate, walking ten miles from downtown Denver to a field at a reservoir, over ninety degrees, standing in the hot sun all day...........
Every EMT and EMT-P within a 50 mile radius of Denver was paged out to the Rally that afternoon.....It was estimated that there were 20,000 IV's started in the crowd that afternoon and evening.......
All so that Bill Clinton and the Pope could appear on stage together...........As I recall, Arapahoe County billed the Catholic Church a little over a million for the costs of the Medical Response to the event........A few years after their rally, the Catholic Church still hadn't paid the bill......
It was absolutely amazing that kids didn't die at that event...................Mostly due to the fact, I am sure, that a ton of volunteer emergency medical personnel flooded the field...............

This story is bugging me,,,, They mention Seniors specifically but the event, held at a church was hosted by a Youth Group that has decided to headquarter here in Phoenix apparently. And the leaders of this group are now very wealthy,,,,

Local news reported the venue opened at 10am and folks had lined up early. Problem is that the 'dry heat' dehydrates you faster and lots of folks don't bring water.
Even construction workers here in the desert start work at the crack of dawn and are often done for the day by noon.

This was in SW AZ--even hotter and nastier than Phoenix--where the temperatures are noticeably higher than just a few years ago, and the winter vegetable season now starts ONE MONTH LATER, because of climate change. Guy got his "news" from faux, of course.

(49,297 posts)(probably 5 hours given how often Trump show up late for his own rallies), yet people still felt the need to line up even earlier? What in the world do you do while you sit in a building for hours waiting for your idol to arrive?

(169,761 posts)is that the same people would loudly support laws in their states that forbid giving people standing in line TO VOTE... in the SAME (or similar - but with humidity) type of extreme heat conditions, any water (or food).

(9,990 posts)Opting to attend a Slobfather rally under extremely adverse weather conditions reflects the poor judgment of the extremists who support him. Those who are dead-set on waiting around in brutal heat in order to catch a glimpse of the aspiring dick-tator should be taking appropriate precautions. The best approach would be to wear a "Trust Jesus" tee shirt or cap while waiting for the heat exhaustion to kick in. Some might argue that "Trust Darwin" points to a more predictable outcome.
