House Republicans vote to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress

WASHINGTON – House Republicans voted on Wednesday to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress in a dramatic escalation of the GOP’s broader war against the Biden administration's Department of Justice.

The lower chamber voted along party lines 216-207 to hold Garland in contempt as retaliation against the DOJ for withholding the audio recording of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur over his mishandling of classified documents. Garland is now the third attorney general in U.S. history to be held in contempt.

The resolution includes a referral to the U.S. attorney of the District of Columbia for criminal prosecution, but that will almost certainly not happen. Instead, GOP investigators are expected to enter a drawn out legal fight with the DOJ in a bid to obtain the recordings.

Still, given Republicans' razor-thin majority in the House, where the GOP can generally only afford to lose a couple of votes, there was consternation among lawmakers about whether the contempt effort would pass. While the lower chamber was scheduled to hold the vote Wednesday, Republican leaders had the option to pull the resolution if they lacked the necessary votes in order to avoid a public, embarrassing defeat.

This is the same crowd that tells you government is the problem and doesn’t work. Then they go to Washington to blow shit up so as to make sure government doesn’t work.

To further prove that statement: Speaker emeritus John Boehner once said that Jacketoff Gym Jordan (Q-Child Molesters) and his ilk were nothing but legislative terrorists and only there so as to blow everything up.

Fuck ‘em. I hate ‘em all.

The doj isn't going to engage in any "drawn out battle" with House Republicans. They already said they aren't getting the audio and Biden already declared it privileged under his executive powers. Further, doj already advised House GOP that the contempt citation was legally invalid and constitutionally unenforceable.
