We used A Place for Mom

The first place they recommended started out out OK, but got sold and the next owners were less caring and service went down. The next place was better but management got replaced and again service started going down. Mom fell once though it was not the fault of the care and she was hospitalized for a month and finally died. I think she gave up the fight.

My wife still visits as she made friends with a few of the residents. She did some line dancing lessons with them (I got her a karaoke setup as a hobby) and they all enjoy her being there when she can go. She heard from some of the staff the "problem people" are gone and things are better.

If they are being crooked in their recommendations they should be fined, but at least in my experience their recommended places were good, but the state of elder care is more profit less service and the good places get the hedge fund treatment and service declines.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
