Louisiana governor 'can't wait to be sued' after forcing the ten commandments in classrooms

Source: Independent - US edition

Louisiana’s Republican Governor Jeff Landry is looking for a legal fight after mandating the Ten Commandments in every classroom in the state.

“I’m going home to sign a bill that places the Ten Commandments in public classrooms,” he said during a recent GOP fundraiser in Tennessee. “I can’t wait to be sued.”

Landry signed the bill into law on Wednesday, making Louisiana the first state in the US to require all public schools and universities to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms.

commandments if they bit them in the ass. They preach religion as a disguise only, praying on the intellectually deficient. This country is more nuts than most of us can conceive, and it’s happened far too rapidly.

Here’s a clue. When you’re dead, you’re dead. You’re not going to retain your religious consciousness and play canasta with Aunt Gertrude in “heaven” when you’re gone. No more brain impulses. No more dreaming. No nothing. End of story.

If they're the KJV, you've just pissed off the Catholics, and there are a hell of a lot of Catholics in Louisiana. If they're the Douay version, then the Baptists are going to be up in arms, they get awfully snotty about Catholics. Plus, there are a lot of other versions from texts that have been rewritten over the last 100 years by men with some kind of axe to grind and they'll piss everybody off.

Plus, the smarter kiddies are going to see there is nothing about abortion or homosexuality there, guess neither one is sinful, the preachers are ally lying their asses off.

I await the interdenominational friction to turn into strife. Way to go, jerk.

the minute they did that, I'd be there with a copy of "The Charge of the Goddess" to be hung right next to it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Let's not try to take down the 10 Commandments... that's just playing right into the only move they see coming right now. Instead, let's hang the major writings from as many religions as we can get. Hea... if one is good, 100 should be better right?

Then we can sit back and watch them bitch and moan at how Johnny can't read or do math. When all they teach is religion, everything else suffers. And this country goes that much further backwards in the world economy. Those kids who are smart or manage to obtain a decent education will leave the U.S. and take a job in their field in another country that will appreciate them, and pay them appropriately. Probably also give them freedom of/from religion, as well as the other rights this country is stripping from all of us.

Gods, how stupid ARE these magats?! Do they not realize that pendulums swing? (note: they probably don't!). But when THIS pendulum swings back the other way (which it will) they better be glad they got to see their stuff up front for whatever time it was. Because I hope after that, it will ALL be blacklisted and against the law to push it, even covertly, on another person anywhere. All their pomp and circumstance will be for nothing as we push the whole damned mish-mash of xtian nationalism back under the rocks and bury it 10 feet deep - hopefully never to be seen again. While doing that, WE can run the camps their so crazy about building for US, and run them to hopefully deprogram all the cult members. That's my personal like, anyway...

appear, in slightly different forms, three different times in the Old Testament - in Exodus 20, Exodus 34, and Deuteronomy 5. They are not a call to morality, but sets of Iron Age tribal taboos. They weren't written in English by modern day Americans, but by a group of near-barbarians who worshiped a god who loved the smell of blood. They were written exclusively for males in the Hebrew cult. If you get your morality from the Old Testament, please stay away from me.

63. Why Louisiana's radical new law on Ten Commandments, schools matters
Thu Jun 20, 2024, 08:47 AM
Jun 2024

The Supreme Court has said Ten Commandments displays in public schools are unconstitutional. Louisiana Republicans passed a new law on this anyway.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/louisianas-radical-new-law-ten-commandments-schools-matters-rcna158001

In recent months, a handful of Republican-dominated states have flirted with the idea of government-sponsored religious displays in public school classrooms, though those efforts ultimately fell short. As NBC News reported, however, GOP officials in Louisiana actually followed through on the idea.

Louisiana has become the first state to require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in every public school classroom under a bill Republican Gov. Jeff Landry signed into law Wednesday. The GOP-drafted legislation mandates that a poster-size display of the Ten Commandments in a “large, easily readable font” be in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities.

Under the new law, which will take effect in 2025, assorted other documents — including the Mayflower Compact and the Declaration of Independence — can also be displayed in classrooms, but only the Decalogue is required.....

It wasn’t long before Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana, and the Freedom from Religion Foundation announced their intention to challenge the new law in court.

“The law violates the separation of church and state and is blatantly unconstitutional,” the groups said in a joint statement. “The First Amendment promises that we all get to decide for ourselves what religious beliefs, if any, to hold and practice, without pressure from the government. Politicians have no business imposing their preferred religious doctrine on students and families in public schools.”....

So why would Louisiana Republicans take a step that the Supreme Court has already rejected? It’s probably because they’re confident that the newly politicized high court and its dominant far-right majority — not to mention the brazen Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals — will simply overturn the Stone precedent, doing fresh harm to the wall that’s supposed to separate church and state in this country.

“I can’t wait to be sued,” Landry said at a fundraiser over the weekend. Those were the words of a partisan who expects his ideological judicial allies to let him trample over Louisianans’ religious rights.
