It's time to stop delaying Steve Bannon's prison sentence, DOJ tells Supreme Court

WASHINGTON — Nearly two full years after Steve Bannon was convicted of two counts of contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas from the House Jan. 6 committee, federal prosecutors told the Supreme Court it's time for the former Donald Trump adviser to begin serving his four-month prison sentence.

“This Court recently denied a similar application for release by another defendant who engaged in complete defiance of a subpoena issued by the same committee that subpoenaed applicant,” Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar wrote in a court filing, referring to former Trump adviser Peter Navarro. “For reasons set forth in more detail below, the same result is warranted here.”

Navarro, who was sentenced to four months in federal prison on the same charges as Bannon, is finishing up his sentence after he reported to prison in March.

Wednesday's filing was in response to Bannon’s eleventh-hour bid asking the Supreme Court to allow him to stay out of prison and pursue further appeals. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols had ordered Bannon to report to prison by next Monday after a dramatic hearing this month.

...if he had just gotten it over with after sentencing he would have probably forgotten the experience by now.

Once he is inside, Bannon is highly likely to create a problem that leads to disciplinary issues. Fighting, attacking other inmates. Hiding forbidden property. It’s in his character to think the rules don’t apply to him, and that means he could end up stuck inside longer. A couple disciplinary actions, add six months here, a year there.

I’m fine with that. If he swings at somebody and gets another two years to ten years tacked on to his sentence, I’m ok with that. So be it. However many years it takes to get him away from where he can hurt others.

Trump adviser Steve Bannon surrendered himself to authorities on September 8th as he is reportedly expected to be charged by New York state prosecutors.

If it was a black guy who committed some smaller infraction he would have been locked up immediately after the guilty verdict.

Time to put white men in jail.

Bannon and Navarro should have been in jail immediately. The same with Trump and any other of his disgusting administration convicted of crimes.

20. SCOTUS didn't have a hearing

The article was referencing the hearing by the original judge who had stayed his prison report date pending an appeal by the D.C. Circuit. D.C. Circuit rejected Bannon's request to throw out the case. So that lower court judge said that's it - Go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

Roberts oversees the emergency requests for the D.C. Circuit, so he could do a couple things including soliciting a count for cert and doing an administrative stay, but at this point, it seems doubtful after all this time, that Bannon won't have to report Monday.

And if Merchan sentences Donnie 34-count to prison, the entire 2024 Trump campaign will be conducted from behind bars.

Remember Bannon ask the court for more time and the DOJ did not object.
