House Democrats Consider Demanding Biden Withdraw From Race

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Lasher (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Bloomberg News Exclusive

"Dozens of Democratic lawmakers are considering signing a letter demanding President Joe Biden withdraw from the race, a senior party official said, as panic mounts that he'll cost them control of Congress.

Biden is rapidly losing the support of Democratic lawmakers and candidates concerned the 81-year-old's continued candidacy would lead to a Republican sweep of Washington and an unchecked Donald Trump presidency.

Democrats running for reelection in traditionally safe Democratic districts are circulating the letter, the official said, underscoring how widespread the panic is within the party.

The White House earlier Wednesday denied a New York Times report that the president is considering bowing out of the contest just four months before the election. But congressional Democrats raise concerns that Biden's presence at the top of the ticket is a liability."

from that same article:

"Charles Myers, Signum Global Advisors chairman and founder, a top donor to Biden’s campaign, said during an interview on “Bloomberg Surveillance” that events are moving “much faster against the president” than he expected.

“I think they got probably another five to six days,” he said.

Things Are Moving Fast Against President, Top Donor Says (Video)

Myers said he was with Biden Friday night, and the president “was very together and very alert. So he needs to show that to the American people.”

Biden called Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday and was slated to speak to close ally South Carolina Representative James Clyburn Wednesday, people familiar with the calls said.

Clyburn earlier on CNN said Biden needs to conduct “town-hall” style events to prove his mental acuity and assuage fears over his candidacy.

If Biden cannot continue to run, Clyburn said he would support an open convention to choose a nominee, adding he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris would do well in that process."

Wed Jul 3, 2024, 01:57 PM
Jul 2024

Although performance is subjective, polls are only snapshots in time and reflect the debate. They're gonna be bad for awhile, even if Joe's performance improves significantly.

They also can look at videos of events in the recent past and judge for themselves. Yes, the debate was bad and it's got everyone talking for obvious reasons, but it was one event.

Joe has had communication issues recently and the teams should have been aware of this. I really think he could benefit from some speech therapy. I believe he is trying to prevent hoarseness by talking soft. This is forcing him to use his upper airway and it's making everything worse. He should be speaking from his diaphragm. I know he's had speech in the past, but I had a recent small fracture on my fourth toe. A minor thing, But after only a month, my gate and stride are already off.

There needs to be better mic settings. Also, the make up on Monday was a good thing.

If these things can be fixed with minimal interventions, I don't see a reason to replacement him.

It is only in the last few days I that I have been posting stories from reputable news sources about what is happening, and guess what bud, Jamie Raskin has been pretty much saying the same thing.

This current story is an exclusive from Bloomberg, which is a reputable source. In case you are unaware, Bloomberg a week ago donated 20 million to Biden.

So cut crap out.

Replacing him, as they have made clear, would upend Trump's campaign. So to report NEWS that you find inconvenient and want banished from your sensitive eyesight is not promoting Republican efforts. Also, why is it do you think Republican efforts are focused on DU? Clearly such stories are all over the press, but you're concerned that they be kept off DU. Why? Do you series think the GOP's campaign efforts are limited to this site? That would be colossally stupid of them.

You know what I'm seeing less and less of here?
Those demanding that Been A Dick Donald withdraw from the race, especially from new sign ups.
Hmmm, could there be a trend here?

Congressional Democrats choose to reach out to the press threatening to send a letter to President Biden asking him to step down.

As usual we our are worst enemies. We don't need republicans to screw us, some Democrats in Congres are doing a good job of that.

This crap has to end quickly because donations and support will start drying up.

We are dealing with a very hostile press.

I'm not a general, but that's a well-known military tactic and unbelievable that democrats in office would fall for it.

They want Joe to go...why?

He's the ONLY person who ever beat Trump.

Just like they pushed the Hillary Clinton email crap. Do Not buy into this. It's all spin and manipulation.

Biden has beaten Trump in the past and he can do it again.

Giving up an incumbent president for someone new this late in the game is a guarantee that Trump will win. Trump will look like the incumbent if Dems put in someone new now. That is why Trump's minions, Putin Trolls and the corrupt corporate media are pushing this.

Switching in a new person, who has never served as president, is a death sentence for Democrats and Putin and Trump knows it.

In F-off. The R’s stick with their convicted felon through thick and thin and these wimpy-azz wussies look for a reason to surrender. Climb back into your mommies arm and let the real world pass you by and by the way—GET OUT and let a real Democratic person take your place.

69. Let's not kid each other. There are Congressional Democrats who went to the press with a letter

which they threatened to send to the President asking him to step down.

This is more than "I heard", it is a threat by some Congressional Democrats.

That being said, it isn't a hopeless situation, and it is unfortunate to say the least that these congressional Democrats decided to go to the press with this.

This isn't the first time something like this happened. The progressive caucus did something similar with the situation in Ukraine that completely fell flat on its face:

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/national-security-daily/2022/10/25/progressive-caucus-retracts-ukraine-letter-00063310#:~:text=Well%2C%20that%20backfired%3A%20The%20Congressional,intense%20backlash%20from%20other%20Democrats.

It may be the same situation with this. What is apparent is that the media is out for blood against Biden, and President Biden will need to curb this quickly, I would say within two weeks maximum in order to move forward.

of losing control of congress get your lazy ass out there and do some campaigning to save your seat and support other democrats. I see zero effort from Congress except the select few who always stand up. Work for your seat and your $$$$ and perks.

... I think it's strange that "dozens" are thinking of "demanding" he withdraw. Have they met with Biden? He looked fine today... he has an interview Friday and a NATO meeting soon. What do these House Democrats know that we don't know? Why don't they reveal their names and share their findings? I mean... "demanding" ... that's inappropriate.
