Secret Service spotted shooter on roof 20 minutes before gunfire erupted at Trump rally
Source: ABC News 6
BETHEL PARK, Pennsylvania -- Law enforcement officials investigating the assassination attempt on Donald Trump told lawmakers today in an unclassified briefing that 20 minutes passed between the time U.S. Secret Service snipers first spotted Crooks on the roof and the time shots were fired at the former president, according to several law enforcement officials and lawmakers briefed on the matter.
According to this source, briefers said the snipers spotted him on the roof at 5:52. The shooting happened at 6:12, 20 minutes later.
The briefing was conducted by the FBI Director, his Deputy Director and the head of the USSS.

20 minutes on the roof of a building they identified as a threat. Why didn't the secret service do something?
They could delay the pow-wow and not let Putin's puppet on the stage until they figured out what the fu*k was going on?

(22,218 posts)Given the situation, SS and local law enforcement had way more than enough probable cause to at least confront him and ask him what the fuck he's doing.
Straw Man
(6,947 posts)Notice that they didn't let anyone carry a gun into the rally. The Secret Service can set the perimeter anywhere they like.
An unscreened person in an unsecured location with a clear line of sight to the primary is a big Bozo No-No for the Secret Service. Heads are sure to roll over this.

And I'm not a trump supporter. Revamp the whole agency asap. They have to protest Joe and Kamala too.

KS Toronado
(23,727 posts)that and why didn't our sniper shoot him? Was our SS sniper hoping TSF would get killed for the good
of the country so he allowed him a couple shots? Or was he hired by someone (TSF) to take a couple
shots thinking such a scenario would help TSF's reelection chances.
RobinA
(10,478 posts)with the SS shooting people who look suspicious outside a Trump rally? I'm not.
KS Toronado
(23,727 posts)They had reports of a person on a roof with an AR15, the SS sniper was looking directly at him watching
his movements with a powerful scope, sooner or later the SS sniper will notice the shooter preparing
to shoot, things such as turning his ball cap 180, taking his sunglasses off, removing the protective end
caps from his scope, switching the AR15 from "safe to fire", now looking through the scope and
adjusting the scope's focus until his target is crystal clear, now his hand goes down to the pistol grip
and the trigger.
At this point in time would the Secret Service's threat manual consider this a "suspicious" person or
a "clear & present danger" to the life of an X-President? Well, let's have a rebuttal.

(586 posts)I think the SS was thinking this guy was probably a Trump supporter who wanted a better view. I believe when they saw the gun they assumed he was a civilian who was helping out the sniper team. Let's not forget during the Jan. 6 rally Trump made it clear he had no concerns about his people being armed and I think that logic was active in the minds of the SS crew this time.

(6,252 posts)I think the shooter figured he would be, which is why he went for the more difficult head shot.

So he plants the gun early. Theres a 3 wall around the roof.
Maybe the SS figured he was a fan.

(7,794 posts)When you scan over a Trumpist crowd I'm sure your highly trained security sense goes on high alert just looking at that sea of whackos. I mean, really, how unusual would it be to see a young man with a rifle on the periphery of such a crowd as that bunch of gun-totin' halfwits?
"On the roof?", you ask. Well, the unusual thing about that was that he didn't fall off and break his fool neck. The gun was a given and he may not have been the only roof denizen with a rifle present that day. It helps to think outside the box with this bunch. Hell, forget the box, this looney bin's been open for a while already, and the can of plague of worms is out.

(1,783 posts)LIHOP?
Weren't they told some guy had climbed up to the roof, and that he had a weapon?
Why were the SS two levels down on the platform? Who were the uniformed folks there, one of who pointed his weapon towards the area Trump was being manhandled to safety? Who were the guys in black, who seemed to only be looking into the crowd, if people knew the shooter/potential shooter, was on that roof?
RobinA
(10,478 posts)didn't want to shoot until the guy actually did something wrong? If I'm not mistaken, there's been a steady drumbeat over the past YEARS of stories about cops shooting people they arguably shouldn't have and being ostracized all over the media and back. I doubt any LEO wants to be the next THAT LEO. For a cop these days you'd have to be insane or stone stupid to shoot anyone you weren't 200% sure was a serious and imminent threat to someone. Here's a guy with a gun outside a Trump rally in western PA. Zzzzzzzzz.
