Trump tells ABC News assassination attempt 'has an impact,' Biden 'couldn't have been nicer'
Source: ABC News
Former President Donald Trump said the assassination attempt on his life over the weekend has left an impact.
In a phone call with ABC News' Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl on Monday as the Republican National Convention kicked off, Karl asked the former president if the close call with the bullet striking his right ear "changed him?"
"I dont like to think about that, but, yes," Trump said, adding that the incident "has an impact."
In the hours that followed the assassination attempt at Trump's Pennsylvania rally, President Joe Biden reached out to his political opponent. Asked about their phone call, Trump described the conversation as "very nice," adding of the man he's vying against for the presidency, "He couldnt have been nicer."

(12,011 posts)While I think he was genuinely shaken up by what happened Saturday (who wouldn't be?), I also worry that it gives him an opening to rebrand himself and potentially get above that 46-47 point ceiling he's been stuck at (which sadly is potentially enough on its own for him to win the electoral college).
That said, this isn't the first time he's had nice things to say about Biden or other Democrats after they are nice to him. He was similarly complimentary when he and Biden spoke about COVID at some point in 2020, and I think also when Biden called him when he got COVID in October 2020. If someone he usually doesn't get along with is nice to him he will say so. I read somewhere that he really liked the letter Obama left him in 2017, and glowed about that for days.

And he's not being honest about the event having an impact on him - because, well, he's a fucking liar.

(69,643 posts)Narcissists - which Trump is, to the max - are deeply insecure inside. Inside, Trump is a scared, self-loathing, lonely old man. He doesn't have the ego strength to handle anything in a mature way.
He's momentarily grateful to Biden for being kind. The next minute he's back to raging bluster. It can never last. That's why Trump is so dangerous. He's the opposite of the way his followers perceive him.
