Behind the Curtain: Top Dems now believe Biden will exit

Several top Democrats privately tell us the rising pressure of party congressional leaders and close friends will persuade President Biden to decide to drop out of the presidential race, as soon as this weekend.

And PA could be the pivotal state this year.

(8,298 posts)He said no about a hundred times. He's being forced out; that much is clear. The whole "Pressure" narrative negates the "Decision" narrative.
bluestarone
(22,305 posts)The pressure i'm talking about is what is in JOE'S Heart. JOE would NEVER drop out if he thought it was the WRONG thing to do. I believe this to the bottom of my heart. Joe will do this, THAT i know.

(12,011 posts)But I remember reading even a week or two ago that he was more receptive privately. In public, he has to be 100% that he's not stepping aside until the moment he makes a different decision. But what he's said privately might be different. It's very possible that what Nancy Pelosi said last week about waiting for him to make a decision was based on him telling her privately that he was considering stepping aside, despite what he has been saying in public.

(18,881 posts)They should probably let us know, and it had better be damn good. I suspect they are allowing fear to overwhelm them. I understand. No one of sound mind wants a Trump/Vance/Project 2025 dictatorship. But dont disenfranchise your voters or open a new ticket up to massive GOP litigation, because they will sue any new ticket as illegitimate.
I suspect this is why the idea is being floated about and leaked to the press. They know what we know and are testing the waters. To be honest, Im very dismayed. If they succeed in pushing Biden out with nothing more than what weve been privy to so far, I will re-register as an Independent and still vote for the less evil. Im a lifelong Democrat, but this entire fiasco has been eye-opening.

(13,688 posts)from any fall out from the debate. And I have believed that he is the best candidate to win in November. However this constant barrage of negative publicity has led me to believe that I may have been wrong and that the President's days are numbered. It just seems to be one thing after another. We are hearing that Democratic leaders in both the house and the Senate plus Nancy Pelosi all want him out. And those are people who have worked closely with him and know him. Is it time for us to start listening to the Democratic leaders or should we stick with the president? My heart tells me to stick with Joe. But my mind tells me that perhaps I should be less emotional and more open to another path. I know one thing. We have to defeat Trump in November. And if the president can't then we need to find someone else who can. And I would enthusiastically support Vice President Harris should she get the nomination.
democrattotheend
(12,011 posts)He's been a terrific president and based solely on job performance thus far, I believe he absolutely deserves another term. But it's also clear from all of the public appearances I've watched in the last few weeks, not just the debate, that he's a shell of his former self. And the problem is not just whether he's up to it now but whether he'll be up to it a year from now, 2 years from now, 4 years from now. Even if he is, I think he's going to have a really tough time shaking the perception that he's not up to it. I watched his interview with Lester Holt and I loved most of what he had to say, but as much as I hate to say it, he still seemed old and weak in his mannerisms and it's a devastating contrast optically to the images of Trump pumping his fist in the air after being shot.
I really don't want to see him be pushed out, but I think our party leaders would be doing him and the country a disservice if they weren't honest with him about the polls and public perception and his chances of winning, at least as they look right now. Part of me wants to see him keep fighting, but I would fully respect if he decided to step aside at this point.

So did other major outlets. ABC was the sole source of this story and leaks from the offices of no names

(17,837 posts)Just like Biden, there were whispers being spread about Senator Feinstein suffering from mental decline with edited videos being spread with calls for her to resign to allow Democrats to appoint more judges, yet ultimately she was not pressured to step down.
This is why I am surprised that Adam Schiff is leading calls for Biden not to run that he is benefiting from Feinsteins decision to stick it out since he is running for her former seat.

(541 posts)...let's lose without alienating primary voters through a negation of their cast votes. Of course, a lot of this is media-spun garbage. One example: one of my senators said Biden ought to make a point of showing more energy at campaign events, and the reporting spun it as "Senator Murray says Democrats need a more energetic candidate." What utter BS.

(10 posts)The level of stupid in the Democratic party keeps rising. Without Biden we lose. One debate performance and these people are calling for Biden to step aside? Why do the dems always eat their own? I have spent a lifetime of watching democrats play Charlie Brown to Lucy with a football. Jesus Christ I'm sick of it.
