JD Vance's Team Says He Won't Debate Kamala Harris Ahead Of The DNC

Sen. JD Vance, former President Donald Trumps running mate, wont debate Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the Democratic National Convention next month, the Trump campaign said Wednesday, citing uncertainty about who the Democratic candidate will be.
While Trump officially announced Vance as his VP pick earlier this week, calling him the best suited person for the role, growing pressure on President Joe Biden to step down from the race following his poor performance at the CNN debate in late June has led to questions about whether Harris could replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket.
Democrats will officially nominate their candidates by the end of their party convention scheduled for Aug. 19-22.
We dont know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we cant lock in a date before their convention, Brian Hughes, a senior adviser for the Trump campaign, said in a statement on the VP debate. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate, Hughes added, referring to popular Democratic governors who have been floated as potential candidates on the partys ticket should Biden drop out.

(76 posts)The line that got me was "To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate, as if Rethugs ever care about what's fair for Democrats. They are just sickening.
Reminds me of how Rethugs in 2000 said Gore should stop fighting for votes "for the good of the country," as if they cared about that. Why didn't they ask Bush to give up "for the good of the country?"
They try to make themselves sound noble when in reality they're a bunch of cheaters and liars who will do anything to win.

(579 posts)I really hope it remains a Biden/Harris campaign. However if Biden were to drop out and Harris becomes the nominee, then it would have proved Vance correct and blowback on us.
Best to withhold comment for the time being.

(2,833 posts)He's slick and articulate while being a vile extremist, and Harris isn't the best debater out there given what I have seen from her during the 2020 presidential campaign.
The best VP debate I ever saw was with Biden and Paul Ryan back in 2012. It was a thing of beauty. Biden played with Ryan like a cat with a mouse. That was the most entertaining debate I ever saw.
