Ignoring controversy, Democrats move forward with nominating Biden via virtual roll call

Democrats are in an unprecedented crisis over who should be their presidential candidate. But the party committee that governs the nominating process met Friday and proceeded as if everything was normal and its entire plan was not at risk of being upended at any minute.
As calls mount for President Joe Biden to step aside and let another Democrat lead the party into the November election against former President Donald Trump, the Democratic National Conventions Rules Committee held a virtual meeting where the message to delegates was, essentially: Everything is proceeding as planned.
The meeting was convened to discuss plans for a virtual roll call vote to formally nominate Biden weeks before the convention, but no votes were taken or decisions made. Instead, party leaders used the meeting to inform the nearly 200 members of the committee about the process that is currently planned, which they had already laid out in a letter earlier this week.
The committee will meet again no later than Friday, July 26, to consider adopting the virtual roll call process, which would not be held until the first week of August.

They all need to tune out the AI-generated noise and continue moving through their administrative procedures in preparation for the convention. What would be cool for them to do is have a repeat of what was done in 2020 for their last virtual roll call that was done due to the pandemic. Every participant then would have seen how others did it the last time so they could really get creative in another round.
That was one of the most unique and remarkable productions ever presented at a convention and it helped each state and territory to highlight and promote their locales while officially presenting the delegate votes.

(22,456 posts)...has a button for it's own set of "emojis" (which are what the DU reply text page calls "smilies"
.
I found a variety of arrows and things there.
Also, although we can't use the DU "smilies" in the reply title box, I can use my device keyboard's emojis in that box.

(8,881 posts)He's fine to finish this term and KH to finish as VP.
Republicans will not allow a vp appointed by KH.
That would mean if they won the Senate a Republican like Grassley or ugh Hawley,
would be running the electoral count certification on 1-6-25. We cannot have that.

All that being said I am for JOE BIDEN to continue running.

(12,626 posts)In March in the primaries.
What, are they going to do? another primary? Who challenged Biden in the primaries? No one got even close to the number of delegates he got.

(12,625 posts)there would be even more national votes.

(19,655 posts)why was he not on the ballot?
BumRushDaShow
(169,268 posts)and the Presidential one was on Super Tuesday in March and Biden WAS on the ballot then. But there was also a standalone Congressional primary in June with just Congress members, so GreenWave might have missed that Super Tuesday one expecting all the candidates on the June one.

(1,138 posts)Our presidential primary was on a Saturday and wasnt publicized at all. It only lasted til noon! By the time I found out, it had been over for two hours! I was pissed, let me tell you.

(169,268 posts)The "Presidential" one was early - March 5, 2024 (a Super Tuesday) - https://www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot/candidate-list/march-5-2024-democratic-presidential-primary/
(Biden got 307,569 votes - https://www.wsls.com/decision-2024/2024/03/05/results-here-virginia-presidential-primary-elections/)
The "Congressional Primary" was June 18, 2024 - https://enr.elections.virginia.gov/results/public/Virginia/elections/2024_June_Democratic_Primary
I had found that Colorado did the same thing - their Presidential primary was on a different day than their Congressional primary.

(12,625 posts)I didn't see that and I forgot I had voted in that other one as I believe Phillips was on the ballot too.
BumRushDaShow
(169,268 posts)I saw Phillips there. I think you all had Williamson on yours too where she didn't make it on PA's ballot for the primary!
