Rep. Ilhan Omar, other members of "The Squad" endorse Kamala Harris for president

MINNEAPOLIS — Key progressive and member of "The Squad" Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar endorsed Kamala Harris for president on Sunday after President Biden announced he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. In a post on X, Omar thanked Mr. Biden for his work in the last three-and-a-half years as president.

"This was the president's decision to make and I'm grateful for his years of service to our country," Omar wrote. "I'm thrilled to support (Kamala Harris) as our Democratic nominee and remain committed to working alongside her to defeat Donald Trump in November." Omar remained supportive of Mr. Biden as a handful of Democrats called for him to resign from the race in the aftermath of the debate last month.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee despite questioning the viability of replacing Mr. Biden this late in the election cycle on Instagram Live days earlier. "Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X. "I pledge my full support to ensure her victory in November. Now more than ever, it is crucial that our party and country swiftly unite to defeat Donald Trump and the threat to American democracy."

Rep. Ayanna Pressley, another member of The Squad, also endorsed Harris on X. Pressley had previously stated that Democrats were "losing the plot" in their attempts to oust Biden. Rep. Rashida Tlaib has not made any public statement about the president's decision to remove himself from the election.

4. Yes. I was thinking that same thing. I doubt it will be anyone who's currently in Congress *

* we need to keep all the seats we currently have. I feel that it will be someone from Biden's current cabinet, or a governor, or some other well-known/well-respected former elected official.

My biggest fear is that the various third-party candidates will siphon-off votes that will be desperately needed in swing states.

6. The only one I think she might pick from Congress is Mark Kelly, as Katie Hobbs can pick his replacement and

that replacement would have 4 years before going up for re-election. The interesting one is if she picks Josh Shapiro, how will the Squad and anti Israel Dems react ?

That said, if you look at how Trump threw away an advantage by picking Vance (Ohio is going red anyway), either of those two at least, would be great.

No, I'm hopeful he will win, but Ohio will vote for Trump and my point is that it's a waste of a VP pick to go for someone where Trump is going to win that state anyway.

5. The source of her angst is not running again

so I expect she and others are waiting to see what the Harris administration might bring. There are all kinds of media "speculations" about what her approach might be, probably due to the fact that Biden has known Bibi for decades where Harris has not had that type of relationship (meaning potentially less tolerance).

. . . the feeling many Jews have that the democratic party is not fully supporting Israel after the Oct 7 massacre. Not also that democrats have been reluctant to censure their colleagues who have made antisemetic statements since then. All of whom are part of "the squad."
