Republicans raise concerns about Supreme Court justices' safety

Source: The Hill

07/23/24 11:50 AM ET

A pair of House Republicans are raising concerns about Supreme Court justices’ safety following the recent attempted assassination of former President Trump. House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who chairs one of the panel’s subcommittees, on Tuesday sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding a staff-level briefing about steps taken to bolster the nine justices’ security.

“(I)n light of the heightened rhetoric and the recent assassination attempt on President Trump, we remain concerned about the security and safety of all judicial branch officers—including and especially the safety of Supreme Court justices,” they wrote in the letter.

The justices’ security has been an increasing concern even before Trump’s Pennsylvania rally earlier this month, where a gunman nearly killed the former president and injured his right ear. The shooting, which also resulted in the death of one rally attendee and critical injuries to two others, sparked the Secret Service director’s resignation on Tuesday.

For the justices, worries came to a head two years ago after the Supreme Court’s draft opinion overturning constitutional abortion protections was leaked.

Some states allow teachers to obtain the required training and apply for permission to carry.

There's a large difference between the two. (Yes, I live in such a state. And I've known teachers who paid for the training with no suggestion that the school district or state should pay. Then again, the teacher already had a CWP.)

Instead of making the head of the SS resign they should had increased funding. This was a problem they made in every way from putting weapons in the hands of insane people , to inciting them, to making sure there wasn't enough funding for agents. Nowhere they made the problem worse with a rudderless SS. They really suffer from myopia

Looks like 60 years of pushing killing machines for everyone everywhere is beginning to look stupid even to them.

Fascists, Gangsters and Fools are not polite society.

I remain astounded each day that the states ruled by Y'all Qaeda's theocratic fascists have not had their state capitals enshrouded within clouds of pink mist each day.

The overall restraint of our populace even in the face of their loved one's being denied medical care, forced to gestate, forced to give birth to children of rapists, forced to suffer and nearly die in order to receive medical care, prosecuted for seeking medical care, *etcetera ad nauseum* is truly astounding.

If I, myself, or mine were put in similar circumstance I do not know that I would necessarily demonstrate that same restraint.

like the proverbial ton of bricks. NOW....out of thin air this "protection" of the SC (certain members only) has suddenly became an issue for them.

I still think the events at that Trump rally where the shooting occurred are very suspect. The fact that Trump didn't get any bounce out of it and now Kamala is raising money like they're printing and will be the Presidential choice for Democrats it is sending Trump and Republicans into a frenzy.

Any time they "prime the pump" with shit like this it's likely something will happen and feeling in the gut starts all over again.
