Trump would 'absolutely' scrap Biden's Air Force One colors, adviser says

Source: Politico

07/30/2024 05:00 AM EDT

If Donald Trump returns to the presidency, he’ll have another shot at achieving a goal that eluded him last time: Changing the colors of Air Force One to his beloved red, white and dark blue. And he’ll likely do it — even though replacing the traditional light-blue-and-white design with Trump’s preferred scheme would be complicated and expensive.

A former senior Trump White House official who remains close to him says it would be totally in character for the former president to insist on using his preferred colors on the planes. “Absolutely. 100 percent,” said the former official, granted anonymity to discuss Trump’s thinking.

The Air Force is still modifying two Boeing 747-8s to replace the existing aircraft, and the two planes are on track to be delivered in 2026 and 2027, years late and well over budget. When they arrive, they’ll be sporting the traditional white-and-light-blue livery that has adorned presidential aircraft since the Kennedy administration. But according to three people familiar with the program, there’s still time for Trump to order the color scheme back to his favored palette, similar to the pattern already on his private plane.

In 2019, the then-president told ABC host George Stephanopoulos that he wanted to shake up the traditional pattern with a design he made himself. “There’s your new Air Force One,” Trump said at the time, holding up mock-ups of the aircraft that at the time was supposed to be delivered by this year. “I’m doing that for other presidents, not for me.” After POLITICO reported in 2022 that Trump’s preferred colors would lead to expensive design fixes, the Biden White House scrapped the plan and brought back the traditional palette.

The iconic light blue and white color scheme of Air Force One, the official aircraft of the President of the United States, was chosen by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the early 1960s. She worked with designer Raymond Loewy to create a distinctive and elegant look for the presidential aircraft.

The specific design and color scheme were intended to evoke a sense of modernity and sophistication, departing from more traditional red, white, and blue designs. The light blue color, known as "luminous ultramarine blue," was selected for its calming and reassuring qualities. The white and silver accents were chosen to give the aircraft a clean and distinguished appearance.

The reasoning behind choosing light blue and white over a more traditional red, white, and blue design was primarily aesthetic, with a focus on creating a timeless and elegant look that would represent the presidency well. Additionally, the unique color scheme helps Air Force One stand out and be easily recognizable around the world.

that way for a reason you moron.

While it is likely that most weapons that might be used against Air Force 1 when flying would not care what color the plane is, some visual sighted weapons ( rifles, etc ) might still be used and the humans using them might be thrown off by the light blue paint against a sky background. Maybe it doesn't help... maybe it does. If it causes one shot to miss, it's worth it.

It's the one thing Trump could do to make life worth living for the entire world's population.

Probably UFO's would land and their crews would also beg to make contact to thank Trump, also.

Air Force One pilots would probably beg Trump to fly the plane himself.

Maybe he'll use the Dept of Education tax funding, after he closes the department? Nah .. he's going to buy Malaria another giant purse with that funding.

Notice that a majority are lighter colors. Liveries that are all black or dark blue create thermal issues on the plane's interior that reduce fuel efficiency. (Some say that dark colors on the engine nacelles create severe enough thermal issues that could cause engines to malfunction in flight. But, I don't buy this given today's advanced engine technology.)

There are some all-dark liveries out there, but these are usually temporary paint schemes for sports teams, movies or other passing themes. Airlines are willing to take the hit for the publicity on a onesees-twosees basis.

I suppose the Air Force One planes have enough excess performance to just swallow the energy issues that accompany dark liveries. But, I'd just a soon not let the Orange Asshole ® sanitize the office and its trappings of its heritage and replace it with crass, right-wing decoration.
